Great little pot
I am very happy to see REI is now carrying the Snow Peak Kettle #1. I am a Cub Scout Leader who's oldest son just crossed over into Boy Scouts, my youngest is set to cross over in early 2017. One of their main 1st pieces of required gear (other then a good sleeping bag) was a mess kit. Being a Scout as a kid, and camping for the better part of 35+ years, i have found what works and what fails miserably in the field. Those traditional BSA mess kits are horrible, the handles break, the pots are way to small to cook in, if you do cook in them, you had better watch out as the chances are high that when holding the bail of the pot, it will tip and spill dumping the Scouts food on the ground or worse yet on the Scout that is trying to prepare his meal. for the life of me I do not know why the BSA still promotes this cheap mess kits... My mess kit is a combination of MSR Titanium kettle and pots, I am able to mix and match as the trip requires, but it cost way more then I'm willing to spend on a 1st year Scout. After surfing endless reviews on the internet, I found the Snow Peak Kettle. i have paired this Kettle with Snow Peaks Personal 3 piece cook set and a GSI Glacier Mug. What I love about this set up is, its all stainless steel, and will last them a life time. You can use these pot on a stove or over a fire. The Kettle has a bail and handles which adds to the stability and safety for the user when pouring hot liquids. All the handles are the same fold out style. which I feel are rock solid. By mixing and matching the kettle with a couple of the better pieces from the cook set, I feel that they have everything they could ever need in the field. While there are several pieces in the cook set that will never be used, and it cost 3 times the cost of a bsa set, the pros far out weigh the cons to this setup. And the best part is all of the pieces we chose, even though some are from different vendors is that the GSI cup fits their scrub pad, bandanna and when flipped upside down will nest into the snowpeak kettle, the kettle with the bail flipped a certain way (it will not work with bail one of the ways, you need to play with it to get it right, but it will work nicely) will then nest into the larger pot from the cook set then the lid / frying pan will lock them all into place. again we are only using half of the snow peak cookset at this time, but feel this is the best setup for our needs. We picked up the cook set though REI, but had to find the kettle though another online vendor as REI did not carry this item yet. I'm happy to say that i will be ordering my 3rd Snow Peak Kettle 1 thru REI for myself as I'm just that impressed with this product. And this is coming from someone who has over $300 invested in proven titanium cookware. And the best part of this 3rd Kettle is i just received a $20 gift card from picking up a new backpack for my youngest sons 10th b-day, so with free shipping to the local REI store this great piece of gear will be FREE... Thanks REI for hooking up its members... Now if we could only get REI to carry the Mors Bush Pot or maybe some Toaks Pots, I would be willing to spend more of my hard earned money at your stores...

Cheap and durable but annoying
I just finished my first trip using this little guy and to sum up my experience: this pot is mids at best. You get what you pay for. It is inexpensive and holds up well, but has a few characteristics (or lack thereof) I found to be annoying: - No measuring lines. Not sure what I was expecting here because it clearly doesn't advertise as having them. Would be nice to have though. - The side handles will get very hot so be sure to use a kerchief or something to protect your hand. - The side handles flap around and can make packing annoying. It would be a great add if they could be locked in place. - Slightly too small to conveniently pack things like fuel canister or eating utensils inside, and if you're going to boil water for dehydrated food and coffee/tea, you'll need to boil water twice. All in all, it doesn't quite meet my needs and expectations. I will likely upgrade to a slightly large more versatile pot.

Great for solo camping

Purchased for a solo camp, and it’s is perfect for that. Small and very packable. The addition of a pour spout increases it’s usefulness as a kettle for morning coffee. It’s small capacity limits it’s usefulness for anything other than solo trips or 2 man trips, but it’s perfect for that job. I initially purchased a 1.8 liter kettle (which I kept for longer trips or car camping), but after trying to pack that into a 24L pack for an single night out, I went back and purchased this and it works great for its intended purpose.

Convenient pot

This is very light and small. It can make coffee or boil noodles as it is. And when you boil vegetables, you can easily drain the hot water. The handle does not get hot easily.

A great one Kettle for water and cooking

A solid kettle that can be used for water and cooking They are easy to clean as there are no annoying ridges inside the kettle to catch food I use it on both a stove and in the fire The stainless steel is a thicker gauge so there is no sticking or burning like some other SS and titanium pots It is a great bushcraft kettle as it can be hung by the top bail A solid indestructible piece of kit at a very reasonable price . Now lets get REI to re-carry the ultra light weight, ultra inexpensive 2 Qt Open Country Aluminum pots

Great piece of kit!

For backpacking this a durable item that is quite robust for it's small size. Works well over an open fire and will adequately serve one person quite well for making rehydrated meals and hot beverages for two can be made easily. Would highly rate this as a very rugged little cook pot that will give years of service.

Good for heating up liquids

I've used this a couple of times to heat up liquid specifically water and milk. Specifically for hot chocolate and hot water for instant ramen. Water/milk got heated up really fast. The item itself can hold more liquid than I thought it could. The item is quite durable and for its price for something made in Japan is a pretty good deal.

Happy with this pot

Needed a small tea/coffee pot that I could put on a camping stove or a campfire and this fits being a multi use pot. the all metal handles and pot top hanger handle works for me. the pot is nicely made and folds up to fit in a smaller space, ought to last a lifetime while not weighing a lot. It has enough capacity for coffee and hot chocolate hot water for me and my son with water left over. This replaces a tea pot I misplaced somewhere and I'm very happy with this REI purchase.

Convenient and effective

This is lightweight and helpful if you don't have another container for boiling water. I used this with the etekcity ultralight stove and it worked great. It's nice to have a spout for pouring as well. This is also large enough that we stored the gas canister in it, which helped conserve on space. Only 4 rather than 5 stars because this could really use measurement markers in it. We had other containers we could use to measure out water, but it would have been easier with it directly in the kettle.

Lightweight and clean design

We used this camping pot on the campfire. The water boiled fast, and it poured neatly into the French press for coffee. We also used it to cook a can of beans. It is compact, lightweight, and easy to clean and pack. The price is right too.
