Not Your Old T3s
I bought these hoping to recapture the joy of my old T3s, that I outgrew several years ago. Sadly, these new T4s fall far short of expectations. They are VERY hard to get on and off. The cuff of the liner is low, and lacks the powers strap of the old T3s. Worst of all, they have absolutely ZERO range of motion at the ankle. You simply cannot walk in them. The shell is rigid all the way up the back of the ankle, which completely negates the pivot of the cuff. They might as well be alpine resort boots when it comes to walking in them. My big ol' SCARPA Maestrales are infinitely more comfortable and easier to walk in. Needless to say I returned them.
Instruments of Torture
Wearing these boots feels like someone is tightening a pipe wrench around my instep and ankles. After a few hours in them my feet are lacerated. Has anyone from Scarpa actually tried putting them on?
Great backcounytry ski boot
This boot was made for touring and low angle Telemark skiing. You can't compare this boot to a Scarpa T2 which is made for serious Telemark skiing. The T4 is the most comfortable plastic boot I have ever used. If one feels the need for a power strap you are using the wrong boot. I think if you use the T4 in terrain that it was designed for you will be happy with this boot
Meh
I am still looking for a lightweight telemark boot. I have a twenty five year old pair of Scarpa T2s that are very nearly worn beyond use. I want a boot better for ascending, as I figure I can learn to ski better but, I am too old to learn to walk any better. The thermo fit liners in these T4s is too stiff once it has been cooked. It just isn't flexible enough to move with one's foot. This isn't a big problem, when the buckles are cranked down for skiing, but it is a big problem when the boots are looser and you are trying to walk or climb. The buckles are not in the right place, the top buckle is too low to really close up the top of the boot. I ended up using the laces as a power strap to close the top of the boot and have a close fit with my ankles. The bottom buckle doesn't wrap far enough to pull the sides closer, it just pulls down, smashing my high instep. The lower buckle is also too close to the front of the boot to help hold one's heal back. Laterally the boots are quite stiff, so they make decent turns if you can stay in the middle. Meh, I am still looking.
The boot for touring and Telemark turns
If you are interested in BC touring without doing Tele turns, get the Alaska 75s. If you want to do Telemark turns and BC touring, the T4 is what you want.
