Cool bike, fixable squeek
Been riding this bike for the last few weeks and I have to say, as the first bike I've owned in a while, I'm always excited to get on and ride it. I did, however, as one of the other reviewers mentioned get the dreaded squeak during my first ride, and it seems to be a common problem among lefty forks. This is pretty fixable on your own, at least for me once I researched a bit. Just remove the wheel (you'll need to take off the brakes first to do that) and lube/oil up the rubber gasket well (mine happened to be grey) and you should be on your way. Otherwise, having a lefty always has people turning heads and it's a great conversation piece.
Fast and fun
If you are looking for a fast fun hybrid bike, this is it. Very nimble with great acceleration. Simply a blast to ride. It rides a bit stiff, but you should know that going in.
Cool Bike
I love this cool and good looking bike. It rides fast. I did a lot of research on this and even called Cannondale to get more product specs. The REI website information is not quite correct. I am told by Cannondale that the 2017 and 2018 models are the same . It is a 27 speed bike, not 24 speed. Crankset teeth are actually 48/36/26 instead of 48/38/28 to help make uphill climbs more easier. The bike will also accept a traditional fork but you have to change the front wheel if you want to do that. The 650b wheels may be smaller in diameter compared to a 700c wheel but the Schwalbe Kojak tires on it are tall enough to make the overall tire diameter pretty close to a 700c tire. The reasoning behind using a 650b wheel is to provide more cushion to the rider since a taller tire is used to make up for the rigid left fork it has. I am 5'6 tall and size small is right for me . A size medium would be too big for my someone of my height. The REI price of $699 is the best price i can find and REI will give you a free tuneup within 6 months of purchase. The bike (size small) weights 25 lbs so it is comparable to other hybrid bikes. Even thought the Shimano Altus shifters are on the lower end of the Shimano line, they work great and the shifting is smooth and precise. Handlebars are a tad wide for my taste but for what this bike is designed for, it is fine. This bike is a keeper and 10 years from now, the style will still remain cool.
I ended up buying three...
Yes. Got one for my son when he went to college after his lesser model from another brand broke down three times in the first two days. He'd delighted with the Bad Boy 4. I noticed that my wife took a liking to it too, ... so I bought one for her 50th birthday. Then, since I had ordered one that was too big for my son but fit me perfectly... yes that's right - my wife and I now have matching Bad Boy 4 bikes. Don't be a hater. I'm still more of a fan of road bikes, but for versatility, this is a sweet, head turning bike.
Seems great, but annoying squeak
Love the bike so far. Fast, stiff and just wants to be ridden. And not sure about the name; the bike is really kind of understated. I don't mind the lefty fork at all, except for one thing: a really annoying squeak. I took it in to my REI, and they said they fixed it, but by the time I was a few blocks away I could tell it was still there. I'll take it back again, but...
Boat Anchor
Might be the heaviest Cannondale I have ever picked up.
2017 Bad Boy 4
Fast, stealthy, and sturdy. I've really enjoyed this bike and have had no issues with it other than the weak Promax brakes. I replaced them with some TRP Hy/Rd's and it stops in half the time now.
