Liberty Mountain  Shockcord - 1/8" Diameter

This 1/8" shock cord is a little thicker than this dimension and the original cord. However, it totally fits and works well. I'm hopeful it will last at least as long as the original. See the attached pictures for dimensions and my technique which doesn't use an overhand knot but a simple whip finish allowing the new cord to fit inside the pole ends. Very satisfied so far.

I pulled out my tent poles a day before our camping trip to find the elastic dried out and unuseable. This 1/8 cord was all they had at REI even though my Copper Spur HV UL3 takes 3/32." But I didn't have time to order the correct cord before the trip. The helper at REI cut me two 14' pieces and one 64" piece. He warned me that it might be too thick for my tent poles but I didn't have any other choice. At home, I watched Big Agnes' video on how to replace the cord and used two pliers to tie all the knots extra tight so they fit in the poles easily. I used a plastic prying tool to take off the black plastic cross section piece to thread the cable over the other at the intersection of the two longest poles. You then have to thread the shock cord directly through the eye of the pole "washer" at each end, and then tie a loop/slipknot. Don't try to push the cord through the opening on the side of the washer after you have made the knot. The cord is too thick and wont go through it easily. I was surprised at how easy the process was, and the new cord worked out great. My trip was a success and the cord works just as perfectly as the old cord. I'm very pleased.

It is easy to replace stretched out shock cord in tent poles with this. Look for the REI you-tube video with simple directions.

The cord itself is strong and good quality. The problem is that is is bigger than 1/8" and won't fit my REI half dome plus tent poles. After waiting over a week to finally re everything it, I'll have to purchase different shockcord that will fit. I saw other reviewers with the same comment.

Hi. Just a note to you if you if you are repairing your poles and want to use this. This is probably too thick for your tent pole restringing. I tried to use this shock cord for an old half dome 2 tent with 8.7 millimeter poles. No way the knots will go into the poles even with some force. I wish REI carried the 3/32 in shock cord that matches the original width of shock cord in the tent I had. This is perfectly good shock cord. Just too thick for most tent poles.

Agree with others that it's a tight fit for tent poles, but it works nonetheless. Calipers measured the cord's diameter at 0.130", so I can't fault the 0.005" as an issue. Inner diameter of my poles was 5/16", with a single overhand knot I just had to gently pull the knot through by tugging on the other end. As a side note, for determining how long to cut the cord for each pole, I found that tying the knot at 25% of the total possible stretched travel (difference between a cord the length of the pole relaxed and fully stretched out) worked best.

This product 1/8 inch shock cord is too big for the lightweight backpacking tent poles! I have an REI quarterdome single person tent. Amazing tent, but the elastic in the cords in the poles disappeared (after 4 years). Replacing the cord is easy enough, but this 1/8 inch cord barely fits in the tube when simply doubled over. This means that no matter what knot you use, the knot is too big to fit in the tube. I manage the secure the shock cord by doubling it over, and then wrapping with dental floss, tying the floss. It all is quite secure, but it would have been much easier to be able to tie a simple knot. I am confident that this will work, but this cord is much bigger than the original one the tent came with. The description says that it is perfect for repairing tent poles, but this description should be clarified that it is NOT perfect for backpacking tents. For those, you need a smaller cord!

Silly me, I thought the thinnest shockcord sold by REI would fit inside my REI Half Dome 2 tent poles, but I was mistaken. I have to admit that I was disappointed when the OEM shockcord become so flaccid that it wouldn't hold my tent poles together anymore, but it didn't look like a big deal to replace it. So, I go to the website of the place where I purchased the tent and ordered (for curbside-pickup) the thinnest cord they have assuming it would fit... (Note to self: "never assume anything"). The new shockcord itself appears to be of higher quality than the OEM stuff found in the tent poles and measures 9/64", so if your using this for some other purpose, or you have a much larger tent poles than I, it may work fine for you. If your tent poles are 11/32" (8.65mm) or less - this product is not for you.

I bought the shock cord to repair my REI Half Dome tent poles, in which the shock cord was worn out. I thought it would fit because the shock cord was the smallest diameter that REI sells, but it was still to wide and I had to send the poles to Tent Poles Technologies to get new shock cored installed. REI should either design its tents to use the available shock cord or sell the shock cord that fits REI brand tents

Used this to restring half dome 2 plus tent poles that the elastic had long since vanished. This cord is thicker than what came in the tent poles, but it will work. It is a little big and tight when creating the knots to tie the tent pole ends on. A little smaller diameter would probably work better for the half dome 2 plus poles.
