The lake is calling me ..
Love my Lake Sport. The ease of transporting, set up and comfort is perfect for me. I'm 59, female. Having a traditional kayak that I would need to haul on top of car would just mean I couldn't get out as often and be spontaneous. Love it!
You won’t receive what is pictured.
Not sure what is going on with Oru and REI but they are not selling the same product shown online. Bought this and was sent a paddle with a different connection, drove to the store and returned it. Employee was very kind and said this is a new product to REI, but agreed it was not what was shown on the picture. Just got my order again, and same thing. The connection piece is not the same. I’ll be returning for a second time as I want what is pictured.
GREAT!!
I have taken it out twice on Lake Tahoe, it was wonderful.
Perfect for me
My Lake + is just. what I was looking for. I live a few minutes from the flat water section of the James River, and I wanted to be able to quickly throw a kayak in the car and get on the water. My kayak arrived just before we left on a trip to my old stomping grounds in Amagansett, NY. and so my maiden voyage with the kayak was in the bays around the Hamptons. It was easy to assemble (I did a few dry runs with that), very stable and performed well. It isn’t a fast tracking kayak, but it totally gets me through the water at a nice pace. It definitely attracts lots of questions from others on the water. Very fun new piece of equipment!
Good!
The only complaint I would have is that even though it doesn't seem like it matters which paddle ends fit together(we got 2 paddles in our purchase)...it did with ours. 2 ends fit together nicely but the other two pieces were a real struggle for even my husband. So even though there was no indication to do so, we decided to switch the paddle ends and they fit so much better. So I suggest fixing that issue in some fashion. Otherwise they are working great and love that they are adjustable(which also wouldn't have been possible with the issue we had).
Adjustable Paddles :)
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] The Oru paddle comes in four pieces and can be adjusted so each side is not completely straight up and down. For instance, one side can be 45° and the other could be, say, 30° so as you lift your right hand and dip it in and then lift the left and dip that in, it’s angled, so the paddle goes in the water as it should. When I rented kayaks, the paddles were always at a fixed angle, with both of them up and down at the same degree. These Oru paddles are great!
Great customer support
We left our Haven at the lake for a week so others could use it. When we returned one paddle connector was broken. (No one knew how that happened!) I contacted Oru about getting the connector. Even though we had had our kayak for two years, they replaced the whole paddle instead of just sending (and charging) us the connector. By the way, we love our Haven!
Not too old
I purchased my Inlet for my 70th birthday, the first time I put it together was in my gazebo. Piece of cake. My maiden paddle was not full of grace. Getting in I sat on the back of the seat, getting out I nearly broke my hip. I must have looked a aight. Fearing I might have to return it, I watched a few videos to see how I could be more successful. A couple of weeks ago I went on a 10 mile river paddle. It was wonderful. I had absolutely no problem getting in or out. My Inlet is the best. Light weight, easy to put together, easy to clean and store. I'm so happy I did this for myself.
Water leak
Hello! I'm genuinely pleased with my purchase overall, and the convenience of storage and transportation is incredible! However, I've been out on 3 different lakes this since opening them up the first time and I do believe my second Oru Lake has a leak somewhere. There's no obvious signs on damage, and as I said I've used them both 3 times. The first time going out it was dry as bone inside (aside from some dripping from the paddle of course), but most recently I had to go to shore twice in the two hours I was out to dump out excess water. This is only in the black Oru Lake, my white one has no problems that I can tell. Aside from the damp tush and slight fear of sinking, I do really love these kayaks!
Great kayak
I got this kayak for my son. He's in the army and travels frequently. This is a great compact easy to transport for his recreation time. He absolutely loves it
