I am in love with this Kuhl down parka. I am always cold, even "indoors with the heat on" always-cold. This jacket is great, it is light, very comfortable, easy to move around in, extremely warm, and the longer length really helps keep me warm on extra chilly days. The hood is great and doesn't blow off in heavy winds when the jacket is fully zipped which I really appreciate. When its really raining outside, I pair this with my un-lined REI Belted Trench Coat and it fits and looks great. I highly recommend this jacket, I debated purchasing it due to the cost, but I am glad I did. I can tell this will be a staple in my winter wardrobe for years.
I bought this a few weeks ago and I've loved it ever since. First of all, it looks great, both in color and how it looks on. The lines on the front make it looks less bulky and slimmer. It's also very soft and warm. I went for a walk in about 10 degrees F and my torso was very warm. Also, the two storage pockets are great!! Both are large and in good locations. I'm usually a S top and M bottom. I bought the M size because it was pretty snug around my hips. Just keep that in mind if ordering online.
I'm slim: 5'-2", 105#, 32B. Size XS fits great with room for a sweater underneath. This parka is perfectly comfortable for most cold days in Portland, Oregon. I love that it is light in weight but quite warm. However, I'm keeping my Patagonia Downtown Loft mid-calf coat for the really cold days. (A few years ago, I bought the Patagonia at REI for a winter in Stockholm.) Yesterday, I wore the Kuhl Spyfire in a light rain and the water beaded up. It dried quickly. For more rain, I grab my umbrella. It has a comfy stay-in-place hood. Great neck/chin coverage. The fabric is super soft. The trim fit means I don't feel like I am wearing a sleeping bag. Kuhl really takes care of the little details -- everything just works -- zippers, pulls, cinches for hood. One small place for improvement: I'd like the hand pockets a little higher. Would have preferred navy, but black will do.
I was looking for a warm down coat that also was stylish. This coat keeps you very warm and flatters a womans shape. The coat is very lightweight. High collar keeps the wind and elements away from you and it fits nicely around your neck. It's not waterproof so I bought a lightweight shell to put over it for when it's sleeting heavily or raining hard.
I bought this in early December 2016 when I moved from California to Portland. It has totally saved my life this Winter! I hasn't failed to keep me warm. The workmanship is very good, and it shows no wear despite my wearing it daily (sometimes indoors, too).
Just a heads up. I have three of these Kuhl parka’s. I just received the 2016 model (with the zipper in the arm) and the sizing has changed. The Small is about the size of the 2015 version XS. At lease for me, I probably can’t wear a pair of jeans and a sweater under the coat without the mid-section being tight. Arm’s, upper body are still generously sized.
I bought this in a size small. I normally wear a 6 (sometimes a 4) and am 5.8" and 130lbs. It fit OK with a sweater under but was snug in the hips and shoulders. I thought a medium would be too large so I reluctantly returned it.
I though this coat was going to be really warm with it being longer. But it isn't and may short down coat is much warmer. I was disappointed living in MN where it gets rally cold.
LOVE the coat - soft, chic, and slimming. The raven color is black with a hint of a blue tone. I am a size 10 jeans, 36DD top. I usually wear a large, but the large in this coat was way too tight. I could zip it, but no room to move. The coat is does not give room at the hips. I returned for an XL - which I never have had to purchase before.
I love the feminine lines. The sleeves are too long and I’m hesitant to shorten them. It tends to leak but I’m hoping it will get better. It s warm enough for Sacramento climate and proved a good rain coat in the only rain we’ve had since I’ve had the coat
