Zephyrs Completed Bataan Memorial March

I am in the military and have worn the standard issued Bellvilles, Rocky SV2s, and MOAB Mid Waterproof boots and the Lowa boots are the best so far. I just finished the Bataan Memorial Death March in New Mexico and rucked about 40lbs for 26.2 miles. While I had a couple of blisters by the end (should be expected over that distance in the desert), they were very minor. My feet were in the best shape after the ruck when compared to the rest of my team. The guys were wearing SV2s and lightweight Nikes. They had much worse swelling and blisters. I was worried the waterproofing would make these boots too warm, however I didn't have any issues with this. A large portion of the march was over blacktop, uphill, in the afternoon, but none of that heat transferred into my feet. (My sock set up was tight Marino wool socks with lightweight synthetic Under Armor boot socks over). The only thing I had to change when I bought these boots was the insole. The Polyurethane midsole is considerably harder than a boot with EVA. I just took out the very hard insole and replaced it with a $15 Dr. Scholls Performance insole and I was fine. Even softer would have been better, but the support offered up and down the hills with the stiffer midsole was worth the slight banging on my toes. The Gore-Tex also feels rough on the skin, so I recommend tall socks. For fit, I used my Brooks running shoe size and ordered these in the exact same size. I ordered online and the sales associate measured insoles of the boot with a Brooks Glycerin and they matched perfectly. Size 13s. Overall I rate these boots as excellent. Tl;DR: Supportive, durable, not too hot, but initially very hard insole/midsole and slight skin abrasions from the Gore-Tex lining around the top of my ankle.

I’ve never returned boots so quickly.

Let me start by saying that I’ve been in the Light Infantry for 8 years. I’ve worn every kind of boot imaginable. Garmonts, Bellevilles, Danner, McCrae, Altima, Rockies, Salomon etc. And I have always worn a 13D. I looked at the reviews, and the consensus was that these boots ran true-to-size, so I ordered a 13D. MISTAKE. These boots have the narrowest toe box I’ve ever encountered on any boot. They also run about a size too small. Added on to that, the uppers are incredibly stiff, which a good thing, however, when paired with the fact that these boots don’t lock your heel in at all, makes a terrible combination. The heel slips and slides while the toes are being smashed. Horrendous. I also tried sizing up. Same problem. Extra room in the tip of the toes, but the width in the toe box is still just as narrow. The seams on the side of the boots caused immediate hot spots on the pinky toes of each of my feet. And with the size-up, the heel issue was even worse. Absolute garbage.

Light, comfortable, tough, & great support

I've worn Lowa boots for many years because of their comfort, but I always complained about their flimsiness. They seem to have fixed those problems with the Zephyr. After a month of hiking in the Alps and many more miles at home, they feel like new, albeit dirty. They provide excellent Achilles support, which was my main reason for buying high-ankle boots, but are lighter than most low-ankle boots. They were a perfect fit and as comfortable as their Renegade models. Another nice feature is that you can put the boots on and take them off without unthreading the laces. Finally, they are a good compromise between heavy-pack boots and day-hiking ones; you shouldn't need another pair. These are the best boots I've owned.

Not made for wide feet

Just recieved the shoes via UPS, boots aesthetically look great. I love the high ankle support and color. Unfortunately, I have wide flat feet, and these boots seem to be made for guys with very high arches. I wish they made these in wide sizes. I went with the Lowa Renegade GTXs instead, and even though they don't have the high ankle support they are very comfortable and come in wide sizes.

I can walk without pain!!!

I have a really bad ankle and tendinitis in both feet and ankles. I use this with my custom orthotics and a 1cm lift in the left boot. I can work all day and walk miles! Stability is great. These boots are light and comfortable. Next step is to start hard hiking again with my wife, which I haven't been able to do since I shattered my ankle in 1993. Highly recommend.

Military use

I got these to wear with my newly issued OCPs for the Air Force as well as longer hiking trips in my civilian life. Most important part is that I have not been yelled at for being out of regs. There is not a boot height requirement in 36-2903 right now, but I still decided against getting the mid height version just in case. I ordered the same size as my normal running shoes and they fit well. The ankle portion is very thick and supportive and they feel more lightweight than they appear. I wore them for a week doing light field work (10-12k steps per day) and they performed well. No rain, but I was able to walk through dewy grass all day without my feet getting wet. I'm going to take these on a trek through Patagonia in December so I'll have a better idea of their performance after that, but so far, so good.

Best Boot, doesn't last

Waterproof? Check. Comfortable? Check. Good Support? Check. Problem: The soles rip away like paper. After 3 hikes these expensive boots have no grip. They're unusable. My previous pair lasted 2 years, they must've changed materials.

Excellent, with flaws

These boots have become my favorite, because they are light, waterproof, comfortable and supportive. The height makes walking though puddles or shallow water a breeze, which is important because I live in a rainforest. I've gone through a dozen or so pairs. However, the waterproof Gortex booty often fails fairly quickly, usually in just one boot. A couple times, the sole has come loose. And even when they don't suffer these flaws, they don't last long.

He said in all his years he never saw such poor material And he’s from Belgium! He added new Vibrum heels This is my 6th pair . I’ve worn Lowa forever
