I bought this jacked ~ 10 - 11 years ago. It is seasonal for me in Chicago, so didn't wear it a lot as it is not insulated. I pulled it out of the closet this spring and the nice, flat seams that attach the zippers to the armholes are unglued completely on both arms. The same thing happened to one of the front pocket zippers. So my nice, "durable" and expensive jacket is full of holes. I am shocked and very disappointed. I did not spend $$$ on this jacket to have it literally fall apart. I know it's been a few years, but I don't care. I expected it to last longer than that, especially since I don't wear it but for a few weeks/months out of the year. Beware. Otherwise, I love the fit and style, and the wind/rain protection is outstanding.

Stunned by the ‘performance’ and subsequent warranty claim - here’s our story. I am genuinely stunned by this experience after loving Arcterxy products for nearly 20 years. My wife purchased an Alpha SV jacket at the Woodbury Commons outlet location on 2/16. It’s clearance so final sale. She purchased this to replace her current jacket - Shashka IS - which we purchased about 5-6 years ago and within a few times wearing that jacket, the shoulder and upper back sun-faded skiing at Stowe (so not exactly harsh sun conditions). The nice associate who helped us at Woodbury told us this was not uncommon and that Arcteryx changed their dyes after this happened to a not small number of jackets. Who knows if that’s true or not but Arcteryx told us that that is considered normal wear and tear and couldn’t cover it. No big deal. We figured - stuff like that can happen and it doesn’t impact the performance of the jacket. Fast forward to our ski trip we fly to Whistler on 2/22 and we ski 3 days. On day 3 she notices that the fabric is literally wearing off on her hip - and if you look closely at where the drawstring is the fabric is actually splitting at the drawstring for a few inches. Up on the clavicle area to the right of the logo, there’s a stitch that’s separating. It’s hard to see because it’s early stages - but it’s there. We stopped at the Whistler store location and the associate immediately reacted with a ‘that should not happen’ and offered to assist filling out a warranty claim. We filled it out the claim, the associate took photos, and submitted it. Within a few days my foe got an email that explains this is NOT covered. We are honestly shocked and I can’t imagine ever purchasing an Arcteryx product again. The 17 people on our ski trip almost all wear Arcteryx. 9 kids across four families all Growing and regularly needing new equipment. I know the warranty used to be better and people probably abused that. But - wow. What an experience for a $900 jacket that’s advertised as their most durable jacket they make, geared towards ice climbing and wearing a harness - and it can’t withstand a couple of days of resort skiing? Shocking.
I bought this coat a year and a half ago for winter adventures including hiking, snowshoeing, mountaineering and skiing. This coat is tough and extremely durable. I have skied at least 20+times in this jacket in various weather. I was one of few out in a snowstorm still able to ski because I wasn’t cold and was actually a little on the warm side in this jacket. While skiing I layer with a base layer, atom lt, and this coat and I found it can handle the winter.
Ok. It is crazy expensive. But you will be amazed how well made this jacket is. I initial got this jacket because my marmot rain jacket let snow soak thru during a snow storm, allowing all my clothes to get wet. I have worn this arc’teryx in light snow and in a rain storm. I just shook and water just flung off. It also kept in the warmth of my other layers. The hood really works to keep snow and rain off your face. First time to have high pockets and I loved them to hold my phone. Do NOT regret this purchase at all. I usually am an xxxs but the xs fit fine over my many layers.
I got this jacket as a replacement for a 10 year old version (that right there speaks to the quality!). I love it! I use it all seasons, skiing in the winter, hiking in the spring and fall, and as a simple rain jacket in the summer. One word of caution, when you wash this (I have the bright yellow) the black liner shows through, I though my washing machine Had ruined my jacket and I was really upset. When I woke up the next morning and saw it was perfect I thought it was a miracle LOL.
With the harsh winter recently, I'm glad I purchased this jacket. It's versatile, reliable and durable. I love outdoors and this jacket protected me in heavy rain and snow. I can use it in my daily commute to work or when I'm up in the mountains.
This jacket is great for the first few year of use. I used it for an expedition in Antarctica and when I climbed Kilimanjaro. Performed really well. The issue is that after a couple of years internal taped seams start to separate from the jacket which left me with an drawcord pulled out of the jacket on a hike... not great in -20C windy weather. After washing the jacket to send it for repair (pet the Arc'teryx instructions), the internal tapes all came undone. Now I am not sure it is even possible to repair it. So while it is great initially, the jacket is not durable due to the issue with the internal glue which is simply inefficient.

I've been walking, hiking, and snowboarding in this jacket since I bought it. To me, it was worth the investment. If you’re an active individual, you would have no problem putting this jacket to use and being happy with the range of motion that you’d be able to do with it. All you have to do is adjust to the climate you're in. It’s a rainy, cold spring? Wear a merino long-sleeve under. It’s a warm fall? Wear a T-shirt. It’s a Canadian winter? Wear a merino long-sleeve and a thin down-filled puffer under.
Purchased Raku XS and I absolutely love this jacket. It was between this and the Beta or Theta AR however this ultimately won me over as it is best rated for alpine climbing. It is breathable, lightweight, abrasion resistant and has enough features to make it look good either cinched in and worn alone on rainy days or on top of my Atom LT Hoody for mountaineering. I am 4'11, 95 pounds usually wear XXS-XS in most sizes. This XS works pretty well for me because you can adjust the waist, hems, and hood to accommodate for a slimmer fit. Although it's a pricey piece, you don't want to skimp when it comes to comfort, weight, and warmth. This piece will do it all for you!
Big picture: What can I say that hasn't been said already? This jacket is the gold standard of waterproof shells and every detail shows thought and design intention. When I need to stay warm and dry, this is the piece I go to every time. Sports I use this for: Alpine climbing, ice climbing, hiking/walking in severe weather, every-day rain jacket Pros: Pockets placed perfectly to not interfere with harness Generous pit zips for venting Hood is helmet compatible and no fuss Super sturdy and abrasion resistant Trim fit but still layers well over a base layer + mid layer Wrist velcro for seal around hands Cons: Honestly cannot think of any
