Details

  • Tread is tightly spaced for high speed, drag-free onslaughts, yet blocky and tall enough to really dig in when it comes time to slam on the brakes
  • Rounded profile and staggered, supported side knobs keep clamoring for traction even as the trail becomes smooth
  • Relatively tight tread spacing provides an excellent plane for riding harder surfaces, creating a smooth-rolling sensation
  • Siping on center blocks and corner blocks creates more working edges and as tires undergo braking and cornering, additional bands of grip are exposed to enhance traction
  • Cornering side blocks are offset from each other to create consistency and a predictable feel when transitioning from outer tread to inner tread
  • Robust casing provides the strength needed for wire-bead tires to last, and a high ratio of rubber to thread protects against trail threats and urban unpleasantries
  • Proprietary 60a durometer rubber compound offers the ideal mix of rolling efficiency and traction for cross-country and trail riding; plus, it's versatile and long lasting

Rated 5 out of 5 by from So far so good. I'm going to preface this with the fact that I'm a complete cycling scrub, I purchased this with almost no research so read this review with that in mind. So my brother had a cheap bike that desperately needed a new rear tire; like the treads were decimated, he was a hazard to himself and others on the road. I took off the tire and brought it into REI asking for one that could replace it. The dude at the bike area recommended this one since it fit the diameter and width requirements. Bought it, took it home, found a YouTube video on how to install these and viola, the bike's mobile again. I took it out for about a 5 mile ride and noticed that it held up pretty well, there were some issues with stopping but that was found to be the fault of the brakes (again, CHEAP bike) but it seemed to have really decent control over the desert dirt and asphalt. I've only taken it out for a few miles but after handing it to my brother he says it rides really well but I'll update this review if there's any issues with it, for now, solid replacement tire, might get the same one for the front once that wears out.

Is the direction of rotation important for the Trail Boss 26 in x 2,25 in tire PN 101-272-0001? Is the Trail Boss logo supposed to be on the right side or the left side of the bicycle?

Asked by: Clark
This tire is directional. There will be an indication of the proper orientation labeled "Rotation" molded into the sidewall of the tire, with an arrow pointing in the direction of forward rotation.

Does this tire come rolled up inside out in a little ball? Have not had good luck with tires packed this way. Bead failed completely; fortunately I was going rather slow on level dirt trail at time. High speed could have been disastrous.

This tire is not a folding version, so it will ship in its regular shape (a full circle).
