I'm seeing a lot of people complaining that the basket sags as soon as you put any weight in it. It clamps onto the handlebars, and if that's all you do, yes it will sag easily. HOWEVER there is a supplementary cable that you must install, correctly, which wraps around the stem and prevents the basket from sagging. This cable goes over one side of the handlebar, under the stem, then back over the other side of the bar and attaches securely back to the mounting bracket with a hex bolt, creating a basketing effect around the stem to hold the basket up securely. This is essential. It is actually a standard shifter cable, so if you cut it too short the first time like I did, it's easily replaced!

Poor function, didn't work

I was looking for something I could carry a few groceries in, so I purchased this basket a few weeks ago. Instillation was fairly simple-intermediate. It was immediately obvious that the quality was cheap, which I expected from the low price. After trying it once, putting a water bottle and book in the basket, well below the 10lb limit, the wire that holds the basket up began slipping. By the end the ride it was running against my wheel, I had to use one hand to hold it up. I attempted tightening the support wire 4-5 times but it slipped back every time. Not sure if my product was defective, but I returned it within a week of buying it. Would not recommend wasting your time. Better to spend more money and get something that will work. The REI staff was, as always, incredibly helpful and understanding.

Looks good but design execution is poor.

This is an appealing item and appeared to be just what is needed for my daughters bike, Setup as instructions. Put some veggies in from roadside stand and the cable lost the alloy stop. Cable was replaced but then pulled through the clamp. Poorly design , Will not perform as expected . Should be recalled. REI should not sell!

Great idea poor execution

Purchased for college student's bike to carry a few books or groceries. Basket is well made and quick release is a brilliant feature but unfortunately the mounting bracket is made out of plastic that cracks/breaks as soon as any torque is applied upon installation. Given the design, it's absolutely necessary to apply torque for the basket to remain in the correct position and/or have any stability much less carry up to 10 lbs. Mounting bracket simply should have been made from metal as well. Returned for refund.

Front basket fills a need

I bought a 1985-ish Schwinn Sierra mountain bike that I converted into a townie for mainly carrying groceries and packages. The Topeak front basket followed my purchase of Topeak's rear rack and basket. I decided I needed room for another bag of groceries and to balance the weight of the rear basket. I like Topeak's QuickClick and QuickTrack mounting and removal systems, though they also make the baskets easy targets for thieves. The thin security cable for the front basket is a joke, so I recommend a leash cable and lock, which is what I use on the rear basket. The front basket does have a handle, so you can unclip the basket and carry it inside. A multi-mode front light would be another useful feature. I would like to see Topeak add support struts that would attach to the bottom of the front basket and extend to the threaded mounts by the fork drop-outs. Other reviewers have described how the basket starts to slip or sag after being loaded. I haven't had that problem, but support struts would prevent it, as would using a front rack. All in all, I find the Topeak Front Bike Basket useful and reliable, though it does have some weaknesses. It makes a good companion to the Topeak rear basket.

Creative concept, poor mounting bracket

I was excited to purchase this basket for my wife’s city bike. The removable basket would allow her to live her dreams—filling the basket with fresh produce from the local farmer’s market, bringing a book, baguette, and blanket to a grassy knoll to read Romantic poetry, or cruising the streets with a cute dog wearing a red bandana. However, her totally realistic dreams were dashed by the lousy handlebar mount. Despite using the adapter pieces and cranking down the mounting bolts, the basket frequently fell forward with just five pounds of cargo. As much as I wanted to like this basket, I’ll be returning it for something else. My wife’s dream of casting a silhouette in front of the moon with a bundled, basketed extra terrestrial must become reality!

Best basket!

I love this basket! It was easy to install. I was nervous that it wouldn’t fit on my ebike handlebars, but the basket comes with different sizes of brackets. No worries! Basket is super easy to remove and holds so much. I wasted so much time on Amazon looking for a basket, but I couldn’t find anything with enough positive reviews, so I gave up. Walked in to my REI looking for something else, and voila, I saw this basket! I couldn’t be happier!

Not very sturdy

This thing is rated for 11 lbs. Not likely. I made the same mistake installing as another reviewer. The weight is supported by the wire. Don't over tighten the bolts. I'm using the basket with a rack.

Terrible

Terrible design. If you have smaller handlebars and have to use the rubber addition to make the bracket fit, the bracket will completely sag as soon as you attach the basket. Should have listened to other reviews.
