Wrong lenses?
I’m very happy with the frame but the lenses are driving me crazy, any bit of sun goes through middle of the lenses and i feel blinded. The sunglasses were ok in the shop but it’s very hard to wear those outdoors. It says that it’s the darkest lenses you can get and i Wonder if i got the wrong batch as it does not protect from sun at all.
Impressive
Got one today. Excellent for driving in day light. Clear and simple. Neutral Gray color. The nose pads took time to adjust as it is new. Great glasses and quality. It covers the eyes well.
Really good. After sales service also does not get much better than this.
These sunglasses are insanely good. Lightweight, easy to wear and the lenses are the best that I have ever used in 40 years of wearing sunglasses. I agree that they scratch very easily as my lenses are now destroyed in a short space of time. Contrary to this last comment however is that my other pair of Maui Jim’s- with the glass lenses are the most scratch resistant lenses I have ever had. I’ve had that pair for 14 years and still in mint condition. Would be nice to have lenses that are light weight as the red sands lenses but as scratch resistant as the glass lenses. Then you would have a perfect pair of sunnies. - over to you Maui Jim😁
After 5 years, still my favorite glasses!
I have used these as my daily glasses for the past five years. Hand down, these are the best glasses I have ever owned. I have the blue lenses and they are still in pristine condition after all this time. Very durable lenses. The frames are very comfortable and great for watersports or other outdoor activities since they are super light but also stay on your face. I dropped them so many times and only once did it cause a small scratch. The frames are getting worn and the nosepiece needs to be replaced (to be expected after so much use), so I just bought a pair of Pokowai Arch with the same blue lenses to replace them. I will probably get the nosepiece replaced and keep these as a backup pair because I still love to wear them.
Can break off at base of hinge
After two years of wearing my original pair, one side of my shades broke off right at my the base of the hinge. So I bought another pair. 3 months later for reasons I don’t understand, I picked up my glasses and they were broke in the same spot. As much as I love these glasses I can’t pay for another at this price point if they are just going to potentially break in a few months in this same spot. Very disappointed I’ll be looking for a different pair to wear, probably something cheaper and different company
Great Sunglasses
After getting Cataract Surgery in both eyes this past July, both my Ophthalmologist and Optometrist told me i should wear Sunglasses with quality lenses when outside. Because i have worn Maui JIm Sunglasses in the past, it was a no brainer as to what brand i would be getting. The Red Sands style with the Neutral Grey Lenses are awesome. The frames fit very well on my larger head, give good eye coverage and being so lightweight, it took a little while getting used, and now i dont realize i have them on. The lenses are equally great. Everything is clear, bright and on Sunny or Cloudy days Glare is blocked out ,,,,
Lenses scratch easily!
Like others have mentioned, the lenses scratch easily, on the front of the lenses you can see the scratches through the coating even with the softest of accidents against other soft materials like someone bumping them with a plastic bracelet as they reach for your face, the inside is also difficult to clean streak free, it’s almost like you’re using a dirty cloth, but you’re not. They need to make a glass version with the lenses so they don’t scratch easily, but other than that they are very comfortable, but nowhere near the perfection that others rave about. Please fix the lenses and perhaps change something about the inside of the lense so it can clean streak free easier.
These scratch sooo easily
I love a lot about these glasses. They look great and I love the lens clarity and tint (blue). However, I have never had a pair of sunglasses that scratch so easily. I had several pair of RayBans for the past 15 years before these and none of those scratched like these. I have actually went through two pair. After my first pair ended up all scratched up for unknown reasons, I bought another pair and have been very careful with them. These are still almost unusable after a year. If these lenses were more scratch resistant I would LOVE these glasses, but their durability is so poor, I cannot recommend them.
Go Anywhere, Do Anything Sunglasses
Have had my new Red Sands for a week now and I really like them. I've worn Ho'okipas for years and these are just like them only more stylish. Like the Ho'okipas the frames are ultra-light, flexible grilamid material (don't confuse them with being cheap). Both are made in Japan quality. Nose pads are grippy but comfortable. Comfortable to wear for hours at a time. I have the blue lenses which have a subtle rose hue, adding a bit of contrast. After a few seconds your brain stops seeing the rose and everything looks neutral again. The blue isn't as dark as the neutral gray but more neutral than HCL bronze, it's a great lens. These sunglasses might be perfect mix of sporty and casual.
Great shades but not perfect.
I had a pair of Maui Jim polarized sun glasses for 12 years before losing them 2 weeks ago. I replaced with these and I’m not disappointed. First, these are very light and yet provide the necessary polarizing that I need for getting around. I use these mostly for driving. I like the look, fit and the tech (polarized) behind the shades. They’re not perfect. When looking straight to the sun (sundown) you can see a small green light from each lens (sort of looks like robot eyes). It’s a reflection of your eyes in a way I have never seen before. It’s not bad enough to interrupt my vision but it’s still a bit annoying. This doesn’t happen often and I don’t think this is a problem but it’s worth bringing up. I still enjoy these glasses and they provide the protection and enhancement I need when driving. I recommend them for their look and feel as well as their polarized technology.
