What size bike does my child need?

• Measure the child’s height and inseam (crotch to floor). Age is a rough guide, but size/inseam measurement will be more accurate. 
• Check the brand's sizing chart to match measurements to wheel size.
• Choose a bike that fits now, not one to "grow into." A properly sized bike is a lot safer and more fun to ride.

Four bike types

• Balance bikes: Teach balance and steering to the youngest riders.
• Training wheel bikes: Great for building confidence while learning to ride.
• Cruiser bikes: Wide tires are ideal for riding on paved surfaces.
• Mountain bikes: For trails and rough off-road terrain.

Features

• Weight and frame: Lighter bikes (aluminum frames) are easier for kids to handle.
• Wider tires add stability, traction and cushion.
• Brakes: Coaster brakes tend to be easier for younger kids to use. Handbrakes appear on larger pedal bikes and require more hand strength.
