I have purchased several pairs of socks recently both at the local REI and online. I am finding about half of them to be extremely tight at the top of the socks, to the extreme they are cutting off circulation. They have all been well made and comfortable socks except for that one issue. Unfortunately, I am going to have to return about half of the 6 pairs I have bought. So, just be aware and try them on before you leave the store and consider getting a size larger than you thought you need if ordering online.
I've been using wool socks almost exclusively for over a decade now. I've experimented with a lot of different brands and even some yak and camel wool socks. For my money, Smartwool seems to be the winner and these targeted cushion crew socks specifically are the best I've ever used in hotter weather. I like the lifetime warranty of a couple of other brands, but they are more restricting in the toes and my feet feel more damp in them. These just feel soft and non restrictive. I use barefoot style shoes for about everything and the natural foot shape allowing the toes to splay is great, but only if your socks allow your toes to do it too. These allow for that and are much easier to put on than toe socks. They also seem reasonably durable. I'll be buying more!
So soft breathable and comfortable! Too soon to say how the durability is long term as I just received them. But I’m ready to throw every sock away that is not merino wool!
The cushion on these is excellent. and the fit is true to size. I like the style and way they hold up.
I love the fit. Not to thick, not to thin. No blisters on first 13 mile hike in them.
