Great Whitewater Sandal
I’ve been guiding whitewater for 20 years and have used many different types of footwear from shoes to sandals and these are the best all-around whitewater sandals. The grip is perfect on slippery rocks, and the thwart pad makes is easy to wedge your foot under the thwarts. You have the freedom of a sandal with the fit of a shoe.
Tight fit
Needs improvement. I’m a half size so I ordered up. Even going bigger the sandal was a tight fit. The mesh on the top of the foot should be able to stretch so I can fit my foot. I couldn’t even secure the back strap. I ended up cutting a slit in the top to allow them to fit properly

Fear Not The Rocky Shores
These sandals have a great, hard, grippy sole. As someone that prefers a barefoot feel out of both sandals and shoes, these weren't necessarily my infinite favorite - but that's not Astral's fault, that's just a personal preference. The only reason I gave it less than 5 stars is because the buckles over the foot bed are kind of...large, and the imprint of the foot was much shorter than where my actual forefeet sit, so the little ridge between the forefeet and the toes that keeps your foot from sliding forward/backwards actually sits closer to the back of my forefeet when I have the sandals buckled.
Adventure Mode Sandal!
First off, I love the green color I got! They are light as a feather and have a killer tried and true Astral sole. Flexible to grip around rocks, logs, or whatever else is on the ground. Yet, plenty of cushion to rock for hours on your feet. These suckers stay secured to your feet when in muddy/sandy entry/exits or when walking in rocks thanks to the rear adventure mode strap. Lastly, the fabric underneath the straps is awesome, it breathes but it also distributes the pressure from the straps evenly. Excited to put on the miles on/off the water with these.
one "hidden" feature make these killer!
Astral nailed it again. the thwart pad not only provides comfort on water but adds all day off water comfort. i had a slight concern when i first put them on as my heal area is narrow (problem with ever shoe i have used) and the back strap seem to be just snug enough but would allow some sliding front to back. put look at the buckle strap, see that extra webbing stich that looks like a strain relief? hook the buckle into that loop and VIOLA even narrow heels are snug and not being cut into. great job Astral.
Heel clips keep bending open
I’ve been using these for less than one full season. I really like these and they are comfortable, however the metal clip for the heel straps are constantly bending. I wear them on the first loop and they aren’t a challenge to clip on, so I don’t understand why they keep bending. They bend wide open, and then I have to bend them back. They metal is becoming weakened and they’re likely going to snap off and I won’t be able to use the sandals anymore. Disappointed because otherwise these are nice.
Order a full size up - Maybe not for wide feet?
I really liked the look of these sandals, but I'm not sure they are going to work for me. I normally wear a size 10.5 or 11 wide shoe/sandal and so I ordered a size 11 in these. Unfortunately, they don't even come close to fitting. They are pretty narrow, and the foot bed doesn't come close to being long enough. The heel strap buckle is more than an inch away from me being able to hook it on the first loop, let alone the second. I may exchange for a 12 and see if that works :(
sweet action sandal
I measure exactly 9.0 (US Men's) on the Brannock scale and this fit perfectly while barefoot. If I wanted to wear with socks I'd definitely order next size up. Feels like a nice snug slide, but really nice to crank the buckles for action. I put these to the test last weekend on the Skykomish river and they exceeded my expectations.. agility & grip are better in this sandal than any i've tried before. Super comfy and look good on!
Great Fit
I bought these, because I finally found a sandal that had a nice wide strap for securing the metatarsal in place. I lost my toes a number of years ago, and finding a sandal that won’t get stripped off my foot in the big water is a problem. I like the adjustability of the sandal so I can strap down before the impending swim. The thwart pad also provides comfortable protection from the straps across the foot.
