First, these are backpacking boots - stiff and supportive. Not cushy and flexible like athletic shoes. They are of great quality and mine say made in Germany inside. They are lined with white leather or calfskin and they are popular here in Arizona due to the hot, dry, rocky terrain. At first they feel like Frankenstein shoes. You need to break them in for about 50 miles on uneven terrain. The soles are rigid and have outstanding traction on dirt. The lacing system is one of the best things about these boots. They give you complete control - including a lace lock that separates the lower and upper lacing zones. This is useful when you want to cinch your boot tight across your upper ankle, yet leave your instep and toes a bit looser. I didnāt like these boots a lot at first but if you break them in and control the lacing carefully, they are amazing backpacking boots. These boots run true to size for my foot. I measured a 12.5 on a Brannock and wear a 12.5.
Very well built, the craftsmanship looks excellent, but they run very small & narrow even in wide size and would not fit had to return a12 wide appeared to be more like an 11
