Youll fall right off these shoes on a true trail hike guaranteed. Its like the team that designed these shoes have never hiked, ran a true trail, on a rugged mountain, or a 10 mile run through terrain. Great quality shoes. Comfortable, fit well, not for a wide foot. the elastic tie is utterly cheap, I would not count on that lace on a 6 hour hike. The out/mid soles need to be much wider for impact, landing, stability. I would not recommend these Speedarc Matis Shoes for hiking, trail running, mountains, long distance. They are a cool lookin shoe, and have a great quality to them. Just wear them out for style not performance
I like Merrell a lot, and these are ok. The fit is good and they are relatively comfortable. The traction looks like probably the best part. What I meant by "high sole" is that it makes you taller. The sole is fairly thick, but that also makes me feel like it could be less stable on tricky terrain. They fair hiking shoes though I use them as an all around medium duty shoe. I wish they were slip-on, but they are not at all -- another review indicated they were(?). For a hiking shoe I ended up getting and prefer the Hoka Anacapa 2 (also not slip-on ;-). Color and sizing were as-expected/good -- Size: 10.5, color: black.
I've owned many Merrells, as well as other shoes and boots.I bought these because the Hoka Speedgoat fit like a glove but I these fit like a shoe. These may be the most comfortable Merrells I've ever owned. With respect to the two reviewers who complain its too high for trail use, these are rocker trail runners that happen to work very well ll for hiking but, IMHO, they are not intended for truly challenging terrain. Moreover, as far as height, I doubt they are as high as the very popular Hokas.BTW, REI has second listing for these shoes with many more reviews.

These may be the most comfortable Merrells I've ever owned. IMHO, they may not be as good as my Danner Mountain 600 for challenging terrain but for hiking or walking on most trails and for regular walking they are superb.
