I replaced favorite and reliable PI X-project 3.0s with this shoe....just assumed that the size would be the same, but these shoes are significantly longer....I'd downsize by 1 size.
Typical mtb shoes pinch my metatarsals so I've been searching for a carbon soled shoe that is wide enough for my forefoot without being sloppy in the ankle. Since REI doesn't make the Expedition Pro available in stores I ordered an Eu 45 consistent with my shoe size and another P.I. shoe I own- the X-Alp- of the same size. And it IS just wide enough in the forefoot. And the dual Boas adjusts the upper around the rest of my foot well. And the carbon sole transfers power well yet is comfortable. So I thought the size was a "winner" and off I went on an outdoor ride! That's when I discovered this shoe has an inch of toe-wheel-overlap that I've not experienced with 4 other shoes on my gravel bike before. The toe box is ridiculously long, easily by a full US size. I've moved the cleat forward to mitigate the overlap, but don't want to be pedaling with my toes! If you'll use the Expedition Pro for MTB or a more slacked out gravel bike this shouldn't be a problem. But, be aware that if you need to dismount to walk up a techy hill that loooong toe box makes it hard to engage the tread.
