For reasons that are irrelevant to this Review, I wanted a pair of hiking shoes with "natural" rubber soles. What IS relevant to this review is that I weigh about 240 pounds. I tried on this model and the Hightrail Mesh model in the REI Gainesville Store. This model just felt more substantial under my forefoot than the Mesh model; so I went with this model. I suppose someone much lighter would appreciate the feather weight of the Mesh model; but I needed a shoe that could handle my weight. I did not factor in the Waterproof "feature" of this model, FWIW. Highly recommend to you; especially if you are "Chunky" like me.
If they hold up long term, 10/10 would recommend. Super comfortable and fully waterproof (tested extensively in multiple inches of snow here in Buena Vista, CO). If they don’t delaminate in a year’s time, I’ll definitely buy again and again 🤘
Perfect option for a lighter weight hiking shoe. I have flat feet and require a roomy toe box which these shoes deliver. They are comfortable and less clunky than my high top hiking boots and they are just as good off trail for every day wear. The waterproof claims hold up and my feet stayed dry as long as my foot wasn’t fully submerged under water. Even after going shin deep in a creek, the shoes were completely dried out and ready for action after airing out overnight. I am highly impressed with these shoes and very happy with my purchase.
This is the first pair of hiking shoes I've ever owned that felt like they were broken in as soon as I bought them. I've walked through puddles halfway up the sides and my feet are dry and comfortable as a newly swaddled baby. Fair warning, most shoes hurt my arches, and these don't so, I if you have normal/high arches, these may not be the shoes for you.
After researching for a waterproof hiking/walking shoe I found the Keen Hightrail. Keen comes in a wide unlike the Hoka hiking shoes. I went to REI and they were in stock. From the moment you put them on they are a very comfortable shoe.
The sales person in the shoe department was very knowledgeable and helpful. Patient too as I tried omn several different kinds of hiking shoes. The shoes fit very well with custom orthotics inside. Best shoes in a long time.
Comfortable, stylish, waterproof and a good value. Great for easy to moderate hikes. They clean up easily with a little soap and water. Liked them so much that I bought them in three colors.
I love these shoes. They're super comfortable, look like normal athletic shoes, and are great for trails. I got a Wide (I can get away with regular too) and really appreciate the extra room.
I purchased these Keen trail shoes to function between Saucony trail runners and Oboz hiking boots. My impression, after 10 miles on paved trails and 10 miles hiking trails, is they are fantastic. * Put them on and go. There is no break in period as they are very comfortable out of the box. * My first sense was that the lateral side of the collar was higher on the ankle than expected, but is well padded and comfortable. I don’t notice that anymore. * The sole is a great combination of feel and flex with sufficient protection from stepping on rocks and roots. The toe cap also has adequate protection for a trail shoe. * They have excellent trail grip both up- and down-hill. * I stood in a creek with the toe box completely submerged for a minute and the Keen.Dry technology did its thing keeping my feet dry. * I purchased 11 W to ensure sufficient room in the toe box. I find typical D width far too narrow. * The arch support is minimally adequate, as is typical for most shoes on the US market. I use custom 1/2-length arch insert. Overall, I like the shoes and they are a great balance of sturdiness and comfort.
The assistance I received from Rick was excellent. I am partial to Keen foot ware and found what I was looking for in terms of fit and comfort.
