Bought this for use as a mid-layer at the end of Jan this year. Loving the fit and breathability of the jacket. Keeps me warm under a GoreTex shell even in -20C, but doesn’t get too hot when things warm up. I’m quite disappointed however, that I’ve had this for one month and the jacket is already showing signs of wear and the material is pilling under the armpits. I’m using it for resort skiing and as a light jacket around town, and not using a backpack. Kind of blown away that a jacket at this price point is showing this kind of wear with a month of light use.
There is nothing revised about this Proton at all. It’s the same 2019 product just more expensive. Second, I live in Florida and only use this Jacket during the winter when traveling north for work. I’ve maybe worn it a total of 8 times in 10 months. The logos which are smaller are already falling off or are totally faded. This is not the case with my 2019 jacket. Don’t buy.
I used to hike in an Atom until I discovered how much more breathable the Proton jacket is. I often struggle getting too hot, even in cooler conditions as I'm a very sweaty person. I hike in this for most winter hikes and don't find myself overheating. It's also incredibly packable and I love the colour too. I have one in navy blue and bright yellow too.
Great warmth to weight ratio fits well and looks good. Unfortunately, after just a few months of wear around town the nylon shell ripped. I'm not exactly sure how it ripped but it was not through any misuse or improper care. I've been an Arc'teryx fan for many years but this is just one of several products I have bought in the last year that are nowhere near as durable as my older products. The products I have that are older than 5 years are in better shape than the those I have bought in the last year.
I have always thought of Arc'teryx as clothing for the name brand. But after recently having the opportunity to grab the proton hoody my entire perspective changed! I think the quality and materials fit exactly the description and activities I get up to. I really like the embroidered touches too. Im 6'8 and got the 2xl which amazes me of how well it fits with arm length vs torso length. The hoody cinch has been the biggest surprise! It actually works and snugs the face well without overhanging into your eyes if you choose not to wear a hat/helmet underneath. Super lightweight, and the breathability vs warmth is surprisingly really good. Been raving about it to a lot of my mates so I am stoked
Arcteryx has completely abandoned its quality control measures. I have over 10 pcs (atom, proton, beta lt, beta ar, atom vest, cerium jacket, fleece sweaters, etc.. and ALL of them are in size M (I'm 5'11, 170lbs). My sister (who lives in the US) bought this for me since she knows I wear size M and sent it over as a present so I can't even return it. This thing fits horrendously, it's like wearing a big garbage bag, the sleeves are unrealistically long and wide, the torso is huge (like a plus-sized jacket) while the neck, hoodie and back length are the same. the old proton used to have a more sleek fit which was easy to layer under the shells but i can't imagine layering this one under any shell comfortably. The old proton fitted like a proper, fitted mid layer but this fits like an oversized parka. I've been reading a lot of reviews about Arcteryx messing up their fits on most jackets and witnessed it firsthand today, will be avoiding their new collections and "revised" fits from now on. it's sad to see such a good brand that I love go down the drain.
I received this as a gift from a client of mine, and I am very happy with how it’s lasted me for the past 2 years. It’s survived New England (Massachusetts) weather pretty well, and does great in the snow and rain. I took away one star because I would have liked to have pockets on the inside of the jacket, but the fit is great (5’10”, 180lbs, L). It’s light and keeps me warm. Minus one star since the DWR has basically worn off, and isn’t what it used to be, so it looks soggy when wet. Pairs well with an Arc’teryx gaiter! Especially with the matching color and logo.
(This review was collected as part of a promotion.) Great shoulder-season jacket. Used for hiking, bike commute and throwing on when I need a bit more warmth than a hoody. Yes it's expensive but I recently packed it in my carry on for a trip to Europe; it packs down really small, it's very light weight and it was perfect for this time of year (Sept/Oct). It provides minimal water resistance but I got caught in a few rain showers and it held up fine. Overall very happy with it so far. Dropped one star for 'value' rating. If I get more use of it through the winter months then I'll revise it up to 5 stars.
I used this Jacket recenetly for 3 day backpacking trip in the eastern sierras. Some things i really enjoyed was the face fabric as it held up very well while climbing trees and other various activity. Beyond this i found the jacket to be well suited for activity with a lot of breathability and not as much overheat relative to a down jacket. Another thing I loved about the jacket is the versatility it provided in using it as a pillow when tucked into its hood. In addition the hood was wonderful on those chillier nights as it provided warmth, and moreover the pockets were fantastic to use alongside a backpack as there are many pockets on the jacket. Overall would reccomend this jacket as it blends technical use and versatility into one.
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] This has been my go jacket for most of my activities in colder weather. This jacket is always the first thing I pack when traveling for hiking and climbing adventures. The jacket breathes well while exerting yourself. Sweat moves through the jacket and evaporates quickly. It provides plenty of warmth even when wet. It remains remarkably warm while static, and I'll usually pair it with my Squamish Hoody or a hard shell jacket when the wind is really blowing or its extra cold. The cuffs are really unique and keeps the sleeves in place. The pockets sit high enough to still access with a harness on and the chest pocket comes in handy for quick access to maps, hand warmers, and anything I might need access to in a pinch. The hood can fit well over or under a climbing helmet and does a great job of cinching down to keep cold air from creeping in. The only thing I would change about this jacket would be a slightly longer bottom hem. I have never had an issue with it coming out from under my climbing harness, but an inch or two would be ideal for me and my body type. I got a medium sized jacket and it fits a bit snug, but a large is too baggy for me. It still does not restrict movement and doesn't interfere with climbing. Overall I have really enjoyed this jacket and it is a great all around jacket for most of my adventures. It has shown no signs of wear and tear despite the many miles and pitches I have put it through. It'll continue to to be my go to jackets for years to come. One of the best pieces of gear Arc'teryx makes in my opinion.
