Lightweight

I am beginning to favor running shoes with the foam soles, not to much spring and very light.A lot of people complain about how quick they can deteriorate, but i don't worry about it.I like how the soles are flaring outward as you look down on them, giving you extra width up front.I did not get in any wet weather so i can't comment on waterproofing.

Weather won't be an excuse anymore

Cold wet weather is a challenge here in the Midwest this time of year. For a running shoe I need two things; the first, is a warm upper that blocks the wind, keeps my feet dry and, yes, adds a bit of warmth. The other thing I need is traction. I'm on a mixture of blacktop, concrete, and boardwalk when I'm out on my local trail; that means that it can be slick with rain, condensation, ice, or snow so I need to have the confidence in my shoes that they're not going to slip and slide. So then, how do these Ghosts fare? Quite well. The Gore-Tex liner does a great job of keeping my feet dry and noticeably blocks the wind; as a result they keep my feet warm but it does lack any kind of light fleece lining akin to what has been in my previous Nike winter runners. Is that a deal breaker? No. But I do miss that little bit of extra comfort. How about grip? So far so good. My experience with winter outer-soles is with Nike and New Balance. The New Balance Gore-Tex 880s had a slick outer-sole and while the show is insanely comfortable, grip is all but non-existent when the surface calls for it. On the other hand, Nike has some kind of black magic in their winter outer-soles, they offer incredible grip. So where do these Ghosts fall on that continuum? They're decidedly better than the New Balances but they're still not as amazing as the Nikes. I have confidence in them, they offer good grip, but Nike is still a bit better. Ok, how about comfort? Right from the start these Ghosts have the support and comfort that any Brooks Ghost wearer will recognize. The midsole is balanced, its not marshmallow soft but it's not racer stiff either. I find that they offer the right balance of cushion and support coupled with the spring in your stride you're looking for. Another thing to consider is that they don't seem to be effected by temperature. In other words, when the temperature drops, they maintain their cushion rather than harden up. Basically this shoe offers the cushion and support that will suit most runners or walkers. Another comfort factor is fit. I have a notoriously difficult to fit foot. I wear a size 12 in Brooks, Nike, and Asics; I have a narrow foot with a very high arch. When I find a show that fits I stick with it. For me the growing trend of a wider forefoot in shoes does me no favors. The Ghost 16 does have a wider forefoot than previous editions, this may bode well if you have a normal or wider foot, but if you're like me, that means you will have some excess space that leads to puckering at the base of the laces. Its not as bad as some shoes (maybe because of the added Gore-Tex layer) but its still present. I wish the forefoot was a bit more narrow, but I realize I'm in the minority. Also, in terms of arch support, these do a decent job, I would say that they're not as pronounced as Asics (which I like) but they're not flat either. Again, if you have anything resembling a normal foot you will find these to be perfectly acceptable. The reality is that even with my difficult to fit foot, these are very comfortable shoes and I am sure you'll find them to be as well. So, bottom line, these are warm and comfortable runners with a sole that offers confidence; all in a refreshingly attractive shoe. Are they worth buying? Absolutely. With a pair of these in your closet you won't heave the weather as an excuse anymore.

Great training shoe for middle and distance

Excellent, stable, and comfortable shoe for distance running. It has more firmness for speed than other shoes and doesn’t slip on wet surfaces as much as others.

Good shoe

I like these shoes but they aren't as comfortable as the Brooks that I'm replacing them with.
