The North Face  Altamesa 300 Trail-Running Shoes - Men's

Fantastic shoes! Great fit right out of the box, with comfortable toe box, tongue, and well-fitted heel. Cushy heel pad but still stable without any problem with balance or swaying, Clean easily after miles on the street or a dusty trail. I like 'em better than my Hokas!

While these shoes fit fairly well, they performed very poorly on a typical High Sierra trail run. Slipped multiple times on low angle, dry granite steps and slabs. Extremely poor traction and tread design. May be better suited as a road runner

The actual color is blue which I like better. These were purchased for a future 100 km hike and they completely meet my needs. Comfortable and fit are great. When I am done "daily preparing for the trip walks" my feet feel great.

The shoes are very comfortable but…..

I'm not entirely sure why this shoe has such great ratings... I mean, it's not terrible--but I'm glad I bought it on sale, as most reviewers probably did. On sale, it's a good deal. I will say that the cushioning is superb, on-par with Hoka. Also excellent is the tread and grip--holy cow, it will grab onto anything, short of a smooth slab requiring an approach shoe. I never feel like this shoe is about to slide. However, there's a couple significant annoyances. First, the laces are a mile too long. Even with double-knotting to take up some slack, they are dragging on the ground. The second thing took awhile to notice, and it's also difficult to describe since it involves the amazing outsole. It literally has a suction cup effect. If you stand for any length of time with the shoe on a smooth surface like flooring or concrete, you will notice it making a "pop" effect, as if you're squishing a suction cup on its edge. And sure enough, once the same thing happened on a wet surface, it literally made a suck-and-pop sound, as if you were pulling the suction cup off a surface. At first this was just weird and curious, but over time actually became annoying. Walking around my kitchen, garage, workplace, I would notice this odd feedback from the shoe. Never running, thankfully... but I think I should be able to have some normal life in these shoes without this effect. I never had this issue with a Saucony, LaSportiva, Solomon, Hoka, etc, etc shoe. Nice they were on sale.
