Awesome shoes have that great spongy feel! I no longer run but i walk 10-15 k steps per day and usually replace my shoes every 6 months and yes I alternate them. The Altamesa shoes look great! And they feel just right I'm a size 10. They provide great support, are very comfortable and my sense is they will last a long time before they start to break down. I will be buying another pair very soon. Big believer in rotating shoes. Former runner, marathoner, 10k etc.
After many unsatisfying purchases and many returns, I have found the exact shoe I have been looking for, for use in long distance walking. It is very difficult to find a shoe that has lots of cushion *and* a more minimalist arch support (I have found that Hoka and even Altra just have too much arch support, which is uncomfortable if you have a flatter foot and/or don't want or need arch support). The only thing I didn't like was the un-cushioned tongue, which was pressing a bit too much into my front ankle tendons. I solved this problem by using scissors to cut a small slit in each tongue to relieve that pressure (see photo). Now they are perfect! I will be buying these again.
Perfect shoes to walk and run
I've been wearing my new The North Face Altamesa 300 for a few weeks now, and the experience has been excellent. The fit is comfortable right out of the box, with cushioning that feels firm yet lightweight-perfect for long walks or everyday wear. The outsole offers impressive grip even on wet surfaces, which gives a real sense of security. Plus, the design is modern and versatile, pairing well with both casual and sporty outfits. They've also performed great in humid conditions, keeping my feet dry and well-ventilated. Overall, a purchase that's worth every penny if you're looking for quality, comfort, and style all in one pair of sneakers. I've had other products from North face and the shoes have the same high quality standards.
I have been experiencing discomfort on the top of my feet where you tie the laces. Not sure if this is from tying the shoes laces too tight or from the tongue slipping under the laces. Maybe I will try skipping the top most eyelets or swapping out for more elastic laces. Otherwise these shoes are a great buy and I'd really like to get them adjusted properly and hit the trails!
I use these shoes for walking for running and also my every day go to shoe. These are by far the most amazing shoes and the most comfortable walking in running shoes and by far the most durable I have ever owned. These shoes were purchased as a replacement for my Brooks glycerin by far. These shoes are far more durable more comfortable than anything. Brooks makes.
Walked around Scotland for 12 days, then 5 days on the Amalfi Coast (up and down 1,000's of stairs) in 32c weather and finally 3 days walking around Rome in 36c weather. Very light and not one hint of foot odour () which may have been helped by lightweight bamboo socks. Put them in washing machine bags when I got home and they cleaned up like new.
I've been a north face customer for decades. When i needed a new trail/multi purpose shoes i saw these with incredible reviews. My experience with these trail shoes has been extremely disappointing. On my first wear, i stepped on damp dirt (not mud) and they immediately slipped, brand new out of the box trail shoes slipping had me thinking it was a fluke but this kept happening on multiple surfaces during the walk. Mind you i wasn't even running and the conditions were extremely mild. The second issue is that the sole is designed with a round gap in the bottom. This leads to a ton of suction when walking/running and it is noticeably uncomfortable. Walking on wet asphalt led to extreme suction cupping and me literally sticking to the ground. This also happened when i wore them to the gym!! I've never experienced this with any other shoe and it is a terrible design. Such high ratings makes me think that honest reviews have been scrubbed from the site. Beware
Use the product for everyday walking around and the sole it's actually very comfortable, not to cushiony not to firm, its just right. Don't know if my feet aren't wide enough but after a the first few wears the edges sink in as if the show were to wide for my feet...overall still a more comfortable than usual shoe.
I have ran trail in this shoe and i also wear it in more formal settings for work. It definitely is so comfortable and the toe box is larger than a Clifton 9! It's a great shoe. North face has converted me. I really hope they don't change the fit and design because I am going to purchase several pairs.
