Bought this vest to replace a Lotus Design from 25 years ago. I purchased this past May and used it for the first time this weekend, September. I like the setup, seems to be very good quality construction. Only trying it on, not paddling, I couldn't tell how it would perform. When zipped all the way up, the zipper handle rakes across the underside of your bicep on a left side of the boat paddle stroke. Tried to move and adjust the vest to find a place for it to not hit my arm that way, but I couldn't. I there there could have been a little more thought put into that design. Otherwise would be a flat out awesome piece of equipment for me.
I am not a huge angler but every year my buddy and I go the Boundary Waters for around 2 weeks of paddling and of course fishing. Over the years I was using one of his PFD's and decided it was time to invest in one of my own. I bought the Sturgeon because it had the big front pocket and (it was in stock.) It fit well and I could through a huge Portage pack on my back with the PFD still on, that was important for me. I like the front pocket for pliers a knife, snacks and my phone for pictures. It Turned out being a great PFD; I'm glad I got it.!
This is a very good PFD. I am a kayak fisherman and I was looking for a quality PFD with more of a minimalist approach to the design. The single zipper and pocket is almost perfect. For me I would have preferred the pocket to have been just a bit smaller as all I really need is enough room for a cell phone, whistle and maybe a package of hooks. I understand most people prefer more storage and that is fine. Far as fit and finish, this is well made with quality materials and I have no doubt it will last for a long time. Also, the Sturgeon is the most comfortable PFD I have ever used. I’ve been using it for several weeks now in the heat of West Texas, 100 plus. Temperature and it is no problem at all. I highly recommend this PFD!!! You won’t be disappointed!!
One year of constant wear, three big BWCA trips, and counting, I love this PFD. It is the first PFD where I can actually say, this a joy to wear in the canoe. Great organization, versatile, good looking. Adds warmth in the winter. Really love the side zip. I would buy one for eveybody in the family--if only they weren't out of stock!
Love this life Jacket, The only thing i would change is the lash tab to be the standard size to match other Astral line up. Would like to swap over rafting accessories but lash tab is to small.
