I bought this harness for glacier guiding and ice climbing. I like it because it is super light and packs down to nothing, It is comfortable to climb in for how minimalistic it is. The only thing is I wish it had one or two more gear loops. Having to hang everything you will need for the day off of the two given loops is kind of annoying. Overall it is great but if you are doing any sort of guiding or if you need a lot of gear you are going to wish you got something with more gear loops. The leg buckles are easy to adjust, have yet to come undone accidentally and the waist + leg buckles are easy to use with gloves on!
I couldn't be any happier with this harness. Used it on several glaciated climbs and for crevasse rescue training. I hung in this harness for about 30 minutes during a simulation and it was as comfortable as one could expect. It's lightweight, packs down small, and feels very durable. Mammut always delivers on quality gear. It's also a bit unique in that it's not the same (orange) harness every other climber on the mountain is wearing. Very pleased.
Easy to put on without needing to step through the leg loops. Quite comfortable for an alpine harness too. The gear loops are nice and beefy, but it might be nice if the ice clipper slots were a little further away from them. All in all though I really like the harness. My only real issue is that I lost a couple inches on my waistline in training and now the hard point on the waist belt doesn't line up. Need to size down.
Very lightweight and comfortable to wear while climbing and scrambling. Not the most comfortable when belaying or repelling, but that's to be expected given the lightweight construction and lack of padding. the leg snaps and waist connector are easy to use and lock securely. I do wish it had a haul loop or additional gear loop. it's a great alpine harness when you won't be hauling a lot of pro, or for glacier travel.
Have used other light weight harnesses especially BD. While they have served great and fine but needed more security for glacial peaks & mountains like Denali and Rainier. The solid loops to hang carabiners gives that peace of mind. Bottomline - lightest and strongest in the market. Petzel Altitude comes right close but I like Mammut colors as they are visible in whiteout or glacial peaks like Denali, Rainier, 8000m,.
Got this for glacier travel. It's not the absolute lightest and smallest on the market, but it's comfortable and very easy to put on and take off. Gear loops work well. I haven't tested it in really extreme conditions yet, but I anticipate it holding up well. My only (minor) wish is that it came in a color besides white; it hasn't gotten too dirty-looking yet, but I anticipate that will change as I use it more!
These pack up pretty small (not as small as the petzl of course) and are easy to get on and off. If you have thick gloves on, it becomes more of a challenge with the tiny buckle clasps but that's the price you pay for having such a small pack size and weight. I would say its more comfortable to hang from then the petzl alpine harness, as well.
I bought this originally for rescue in my job as a ski patroller and have found myself bringing it on every ski touring trip where I may need a harness instead of my BD Couloir. While the Mammut does not pack down as small it is more robust and comfortable. The small bit of extra size and weight is negligible in my opinion.
as we know alpine harnesses are not known for being comfortable, I've been in a few others and this one, in my opinion, is the comfiest, it weighs in at 215 grams. I got a medium but I definitely would get large if I was to order again ( I normal am a medium in harnesses)
Easy on and easy off. the harness does what it is supposed to. It packs a bit larger and heavier then some other mountaineering harnesses but is worth it for the extra utility and ease of use.
