Not for high volume feet
Too narrow and NOT for high volume feet The shoe is nice and lightweight but being the standard foot shape it’s too narrow for those who need truly wide shoes, but that’s not news The bigger issue is the volume with these laces - I do not have swollen feet just higher volume and these laces make the top of my foot look like my foot is in sausage casing and the tongue isn’t wide enough to cover my whole foot. I can’t loosen them any more than they are.
Half size up
I wore lone peaks to work for years. I had one partner mockingly address me as "REI." I'll take it. These are more presentable and still decent for running/hiking in a pinch. I went up a half size from my Lone Peak size. The toebox and midfoot are adequately wide for my foot, unlike some of Altra's other "standard toeshape" models. The 4mm drop isn't particularly noticable. For comparison, I don't tolerate 4E New Balances because of the toebox and drop. The build quality is Altra standard, which is to say "acceptable." Durability is fine so far. It's not a perfect shoe, but I'm still leaving a 5 star review because I don't want them to discontinue it.
Voyager review
Love all my other altras and really wanted these to be my new travel shoe, style was good but the width on the forefoot was a bit too narrow compared to my lone peaks and escalantes. Felt a little pinching on the forefoot which ultimately led me to returning them. Would be a sweet shoe if the just kept it wider and zero drop.
A good daily light-use shoe
Sizing a little off from other Altra shoes I have worn. The toe box seems a little more narrow/constricted. I usually comfortably wear a size 11.5 regular and I feel the longest toe being pushed backwards like I should wear a 12 in this shoe. Otherwise the shoe is well-made and the Vibram sole should help durability. I am wearing the shoe for daily walks: I don't think the elastic lacing system would give a lock-down feeling you might want for more strenuous activity.
Tight, painful, disappointing
I had a lot of hope for this shoe, as on paper it would be my dream travel shoe: ✅ Sleek profile in a clean Tan colorway ✅ Altra's signature wide toe box that I love ✅ Vibram sole with enough bite for light trail use Unfortunately, I encountered the same fit issues that other reviewers have mentioned. For reference, I am a US Size 11 and typically sit between a standard and wide width. My other Altras use their "Original" footshape (Lone Peak 7 and 9+, and the Escalante 4), so this was my first time trying their "Standard" fit. While I can usually wear most other casual and athletic sneakers without an issue because they conform to my feet, these were the first shoes I've tried that were actually painful to wear after just a few minutes. The Voyager is noticeably snug throughout the midfoot, and the area around the ball of the foot is the tightest and most uncomfortable spot. The eyelet for the bottom lace is the biggest culprit here, as unlike other sneakers there is just no flex in that area. The sides also pinched while walking, even after I tried to break them in for longer than I probably should have. If you have a narrow or low-volume foot, then I think you'll love these, as the quality, look, and function are definitely there. I really wanted these to be my go-to travel shoe, but I ultimately had to return them due to the discomfort for my feet.
Too Tight
Purchased these excited at the prospect of a casual, everyday Altra. They do look great, but are uncomfortable. Aside from them being very tight mid foot, there is a sewn patch at the bottom lace stay that rubs all day long. Not like Altras of the past, unfortunately.
Best Altra ever
This is without a doubt the best fitting Altra shoe since the Torin 3.0. Right out of the box super comfortable. I will wear these for everything including golf. I like the 4mm drop and the elastic laces. Easy on and easy off. Highly recommend the Voyage. True to size and just enough cushion. Way to go Altra.
Great casual hiking shoe
The shoe is very comfortable, it benefits from the 4mm drop. I'm in Zion now using the shoes on several day hikes with no complaints. I have one suggestion, a wider tongue would be nice.
Perfect Mix of Comfort and Function
Perfect shoe for spring/summer - errands around town, light hikes, days at the park. As a busy dad, the laceless slip on is perfect.
