This pack is super comfy and I was able to switch out the shoulder and waist straps from an XS to S. Such an easy switch that the REI fitter offered me because I have a broad back and large bust but I’m very short. I only gave it 4 stars because it’s got too many pockets and when the bag has a bear can and all my other gear they aren’t really useful & just end up adding extra weight. I’d love to see this bag simplified. Keep the large front compartment opening, delete the sleeping bag zipper opening, make the interior brain pocket smaller, delete the zippered pockets on the body, make the mesh pockets more generous and for the love of all that is holy make the hip belt pockets BIGGER!
After over a decade of Osprey bags, I was ready to try something different when I entered my 30s. While great quality, the Osprey bags left my lower back hurting at the end of the day because of my long waist. This pack has the built in shoulder adjustments and lower back support that made all the difference. I'm 5'4", about 150 pounds, and had an 18 in back measurement; the size Small fit like a glove. I felt many years younger backpacking with this pack! Also, as someone who love to "organize" her gear and hike with dogs, I also LOVE all the pockets, and the easy access zipper that lets you get into the middle of the bag from the side of the pack. The side water bottle pocket is a nice versatile option to have- I mostly used it to carry a small water bottle for my dogs and their leashes. I also like having the built in daypack, which came in handy for day hikes and made me feel more secure about my water bladder not sweating or leaking into other parts of the bag. All in all- recommend this pack 100%. I can't wait to take this pack on many more adventures!!!
This is the 1st backpack I have purchased. I was looking at a different pack until the customer service rep suggested the Gregory. I tried it out in the store, and figured what the heck, I can return it if it doesn't work well. Needless to say, it was awesome. It fit in all the right places for a woman. The hip belt was well padded, and the lower sacrum pad rested perfectly on my tail bone. I had no shoulder issues, or discomfort (other than learning 30 pounds when your not use to carrying it is awkward.) I love this pack and wouldn't give it up for anything. Waiting for my next backpack trip, eagerly.
The bottom line is I love this pack. Comfortable. Lots of space. Great access. The most important thing re comfort (for me) was to pay attention to the extra lumbar support pad. It's just a small pad you might not notice but it's VERY important. I was carrying 35 - 40 lbs and after 1 1/2 days my hips were very unhappy. I remembered something I saw online about the lumbar support pad - once I removed it the pack was PERFECT! Check out the video describing the lumbar support pad. I didn't think such a small item would make such a difference but it does. Love this pack.
I bought a new version of the Deva 70 to shave a few pounds off of the one I had since 2010. The grippy rubber on the lumbar support and the shape of the support (even with adjustment) caused painful chafing to my lower back that made for a difficult 5-day trip with 30-35 lbs in the pack. I don’t think I am anatomically odd, as standard clothing tends to fit. I tried multiple configurations of the straps to relieve the pressure and friction, but nothing worked. I’d recommend a test with serious weights before taking this pack out on the trail.
Took this on my first overnight back packing trip. It was very comfortable. The only things I would change would be: larger side pocket to actually fit my phone, I had to put it in the brain as is didn't fit. I would like to have a water holder on the chest strap, but that can be added easily. I didn't care for the top chest strap that runs across the top horizontal. It wasn't a loop and hook, but a slide, and it would constantly slide up changing the fit. It wasn't horrible, but it was a small irritant. Overall, this was a great first backpacking bag for carrying a lot of stuff that my kids couldn't carry, and comfortable.
This backpack fits great and has amazing lower back support. Lots of convenience features and storage in the pack.
I have a curve inward right above my backside so I need lumbar support. The Deva is the only one to offer that support. I also need interchangeable parts so my Deva is XS, my straps are S and my hipbelt is M. I like this pack a lot. The suspension system works better for me than the antigravity system on another big name pack that has the initial A. The Deva carries the weight better and feels more comfortable than my Ultralight pack which starts with the initial C and is the most popular pack with PCT thru hikers.
Too big for short torsoed women. I'm 5'1", and XS was still too long for my torso even when adjusted to the shortest adjustments. The lumbar support was uncomfortable after 15 min of carrying minimal weight, and the top of the pack bumped constantly against the back of my head. Be careful with sizing with this one. Otherwise, quality seemed good. Many pockets and zippers and bells and whistles for those who like that. It's a maximalist pack for sure. I went with the Osprey Kyte 66 in XS instead, which has a shorter torso length and fit me much better, as well as a less complicated design.
this bag is amazing! easy to use, comfortable to hike in and didn't feel nearly as heavy as the 40 lbs of stuff i packed in and on it. love that in includes a rain cover and day pack, both of which came in handy. it held all of my essentials plus room for extras!
