The best-constructed ultralight rain jacket on the market

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Outdoor Research gave me this free product to try, and I've been nothing but impressed. I put this jacket through the wringer on a number of long runs, alpine hikes, mountain bike rides, camping trips, peak climbs, and international trips. As expected, it kept me dry and comfortable in bad weather. What I wasn't expecting was the incredible packability and well-designed features of this garment. Especially on runs and bike rides, I really appreciated how small and light it packed. Simple features such as the snug elastic cuffs, hood cinch, and adjustable hood shape made a big difference in the comfort and versatility of this jacket. In addition, the breathability of the Helium Ultralight feels unmatched. Even during high-output activities and in humid climates, I felt dry as long as I brought proper layering. I've had no issues with durability so far, which is really impressive for a garment this light. I found this jacket to run a bit large, but with hood and waistline cinch, the fit is very adjustable. It's boxy in the body compared to similar jackets from European brands. A size Large is great for me (6', 175lbs) and gave me space to layer on colder days. The only piece I think is missing from this jacket is ventilation under the arms. An ultralight jacket like this can't be expected to have everything and the breathability makes up for this missing feature, but I'm a sucker for pit zips on waterproof layers. Despite the fact that I haven't had issues yet, I can tell that this jacket won't hold up to bushwhacking adventures in the same way that heavier, bulkier jackets do. If you find yourself making contact with a lot of sharp objects when you travel in the backcountry, this jacket might not be the one for you. Overall, I've been really impressed with the functionality of the Helium Rain Ultralight Jacket. It's my go-to for most adventures. Anyone who spends time in the alpine and likes to move fast should put this jacket at the top of their shopping list.

A solid option in a saturated market

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] The jacket fits true to size and feels quality. The colorway is a great choice as it can be worn on trail but muted enough to wear everyday without looking too "technical". I wouldn't say it breathes well enough for running, but some lighter hiking or around the camp would be okay. It also is light and packs up well although be prepared for major creasing and wrinkles when unpacking the jacket. Has zero effect on performance, but something to note if using for travel.

Way better than the older one.

Welp, it had been sunny all week, but it had to change on Wednesday. I was heading to go photograph some mountain bikers, and on my way to the trails, it started raining, then hailing, then blowing, and it was a mess for sure. When I got to the trail head it was just down pouring. The only thing I had was my new Helium Jacket and since it's new, I was a bit worried. The previous model was a single layer design and really wasn't up to heavy rain or lots of rain. This thing is a beast! I was out for 3-4 hours in the deep forest getting hailed on, rained on, blown away and my down jacket underneath was bone dry. The new design is so nice and lays on you so well. I was able to move and scramble over rocks and brush with no issue. The only thing I don't like is not having front pockets, but that isn't a deal breaker for me since I think of it as an emergency jacket that I'll take off once it stopped raining, the only thing is, I didn't want to take it off.
