Wore for two nights and still no sleep data in the garmin connect app. Checked the garmin support site and apparently if you happen to go to sleep outside of the set sleep schedule settings in the app your index sleep monitor doesn't record sleep data. Tf?? So you mean this device is pretty much USELESS if youre a pilot, nurse, physician, locomotive engineer, or anyone without a set sleep schedule?? People who need to monitor their sleep the most! I will try setting the sleep schedule basically to encompass the entire 24 hours. If that doesn't work I'll return it.
I bought the first one, and it was too small. Garmin made it right and replaced it for the right size. The large one had a defective sensor that never worked, so I sent it back. Contrary to some reviews it was really uncomfortable to sleep with because you either have to have it too loose so it slips off or if you secure it normally it pinches a nerve and cuts circulation off of arm. Garmin really needs to get on the ring bandwagon to monitor sleep without having to wear your watch. Now I don't monitor it because Garmin has no viable or good options and will not integrate oura or any other ring data into their app.
After two nights of recording my sleep, the device would no longer sync. After removing the device from garmin connect, I could not re-add the device to garmin connect as it would fail silently complaining about "bad pin / passcode". Garmin forums mention one other person having this same problem, with no fix besides replacing the device. Garmin support was pathetic in just copying and pasting pairing steps from the manual, which I had mentioned I had followed exactly, and asking me to record a video when I provided detailed step by step descriptions of how it was failing. This product is half-baked, and the fact they're asking me to record a video shows that they are treating early users like beta-testers instead of paying customers.
Redundant and Regretful I own the Garmin Epix Gen 2, which already tracks sleep with precision. The Index Sleep Monitor? Completely unnecessary. It’s a single-purpose wearable that duplicates what my watch already does, sleep stages, recovery metrics, smart alarm, all of it. I kept hoping there’d be some added value, but nope. It’s just another device to charge, sync, and wear. The band is comfortable, sure, but that doesn’t justify the price tag. If you’re already in the Garmin ecosystem and have a capable watch, this feels like a solution in search of a problem. I wish I hadn’t bought it. Save your money and let your watch do its job.
This sleep monitor is very comfortable and allows those who don't like sleeping with their Garmin watch (like me) to track sleep and enable the advanced metrics on higher end watches. The arm band is comfortable and you barely notice that it is there most of the time. Occasionally it may feel like it is falling off, but I suspect that is the edge of the sleeve of my t-shirt without feeling the entire sleeve on my arm. I have not washed the arm band yet, but that is a nice feature to have. Battery life is as advertised so far. While not a necessary device by any means this is nice to have if you are finicky with what you wear while sleeping.
Bought the Garmin Index Sleep Monitor because I wanted to track sleep without wearing a watch and stay in the Garmin ecosystem (otherwise I probably would have gone with the Oura Ring). Unfortunately, my experience has been disappointing so far. Pretty often the sleeve fails to record sleep entirely. I pay attention to fit, sensor position, placement, etc., and I still end up with a couple of failed nights per week. The most frustrating part is the lack of meaningful feedback when it fails — there’s little to no explanation about what went wrong, so it’s hard to improve consistency. To be fair, it’s very comfortable and unobtrusive when it works, which is exactly what I wanted. But in my case the reliability just hasn’t been there. Overall I’m disappointed and, based on my experience, I wouldn’t recommend it.
Just shy of excellent. Very comfortable, sometimes you forget you're wearing it. Augments a Garmin watch well, but definitely isn't a must have unless you can't / won't sleep wearing your watch. Unfortunately the device doesn't always pair correctly, and/or has data conflicts with the watch if you don't follow an exact pairing sequence with the app. This is an avoidable software issue, but at this price point, it really should work seamlessly and out of the box with limited/no headaches and it just doesn't quite reach that point. I would add that I've learned the right sequence, but one shouldn't have to learn a sequence for the data to just work.
This device does a good job for the price point. It's a bit quirky to set up as the only interface is Garmin connect and a single status light. It doesn't always collect/ sync all the data. It is mostly comfortable. It doesn't always stay in place. A few tips. When you wake up, take it off and put close to your watch or primary wearable. I'm not sure how long the armband will last. REI stands by the products they sell. Installation also changed the way connect looks. There is a lot more sleep data.
I have a Fenix 6 and the only thing the sleep monitor does that the Fenix does not is the body temp measurement and breath variations. The monitor really is only “needed” if you don’t wear your watch to bed. Becasuse most Garmin watches already do all the functions of the monitor. In addition to it not really do anything more than a Garmin watch already, you are not supposed to sleep on the arm that it’s on. Kind of hard if you happen to sleep on both of your sides throughout the night. Overall, not worth it if you already have a Garmin watch. Pretty lackluster product that doesn’t offer anything special.
This is the third time I have had to 'forget' my device to try to get it to sync. When it works, it's great. When it doesn't it is super frustrating. Won't sync or gives me crazy off data... that doesn't make sense. I can understand if it is loose on my arm and the numbers get off numbers - but that's not the case. Ultimately, if you don't mind being frustrated once a week b/c it suddenly won't sync then it will work for you. I really really want it to work - it's comfortable and I'm "all in" on other garmin products. Maybe I have a bum device - I've had issues multiple times and only started using 4 months ago.
