Heavy pack, great novelty, good comfort

I went in to pick up an osprey pack - and wanted to keep it smaller thank 65l. As I tried on packs - the friendly folks at REI pointed out that some wider shoulder, small frame guys find the Baltoro a better fit. The only small (I was between a small and medium torso at 5'9", 165lbs, 30" waist) pack had the solar panel; so I tried it on. I was surprised it fit so well. No weight on my lower back or tight belt points on my hips. I handled the pack with weights in the store for an hour shopping around and almost forgot I was wearing it (w/o the weight of the solar panels). Instant gratification meant I was taking that one home...besides, I love tech toys and - charging my GPS while I hike is a no-brainer. I like the pack - the weight is the only reason I can't give it 5 stars. I really like the pack - and I have more than enough space for a week long hike with all the comforts I need.

The Cadillac of backpacks
I've been using this for about a year now. I've been extremely happy with it. The most comfortable I've had yet. I'm rather skinny and always have a problem with shoulder and hip straps, but finally not with this one! The pivoting hips are way more useful than I thought they would be, especially when navigating boulder fields and rough terrain. I would like a few more points on the exterior to attach gear. The solar panels work well. The suspension system works great, the back could breath better though. Easy access to all your gear no matter where it's at. as with all backpacks there are a few things I would change but overall an outstanding product.

Superb comfort and features.

I waited to take this out on a trip before reviewing. It took me a little while to get the fit figured out completely but once I did, the pack was the least of my worries. This one has "grippers" designed to grab on to the top of your butt and keep the pack from sliding down. Tuck your shirt in or at least pull it up above the grippers so that they help hold the pack in place. I kept playing with the adjustments in the shoulder straps until I got it so there was no vertical weight on the shoulder straps; just enough tightness to hold the pack upright and still let my back breathe. The number of options with this pack seem endless and it has a lot of cool features that you kind of get to know as you explore the pack.

Say goodbye to Civilization

This pack is not designed for those of you sleeping in a bivy sack, not to say it wouldn't work however at a starting weight of 6.5 lbs it isn't geared to the lightweight packer. Now with that being said I have all Ultra Light backpacking gear and this pack with water weighed in at 35 carrying everything from first-aid/tent/sleeping back/pad/THE KITCHEN SINK. I carried it all and went out solo with no worries. The only thing I did notice that sort of bugged me was the hip belt was stiff which is true for all load carrying packs at first especially. This one is touted to haul 50lbs. I had no issues fitting my gear inside and didn't regret it one bit. If you ask me the solar panel is just an extra cool feature on this pack. It does add roughly 1lb but for the ability to recharge a phone overnight or while hiking is awesome. The compass feature works on my iphone with no service to a degree of accuracy that suites my needs/takes plenty of great pictures/also can be used as a mriror to signal/ emergency calls. The removable day pack is another awesome feature which allows you to get out on day hikes while backpacking in remote areas. Lets say you wanted to hike to a vista, all you really need is water and a hammock so ditch the pack and carry the day bag. If you want to see some of my adventure pictutres feel free to check out my Instagram to see where this pack has taken me so far. @millennialwanderer

Can carry just about everything

I purchased this pack during the Memorial Day sale and it's now past Labor Day. The pack has been all over Colorado and to Mexico and back. I did break a chest strap buckle, but Gregory replaced it with a more robust one and the good folks at REI Kansas City helped me replaced it. I too went in looking to purchase a different pack. But this pack was suggested and I use the AllTrails app on my iPhone and like the idea of being able to charge while at camp. I did just that last night West of Boulder. I'd buy it again.

Really Like This Bag
I originally bought an Osprey Kestrel 50, and ended up returning it for this because I wanted more room, and I always need to have my phone with me for work, so I really liked the built in solar panel.
This bag in small weighs 6.74 pounds with the solar panel, battery, day pack, and rain fly included that are included, but the suspension system is awesome and to me it's worth the extra weight for the comfort and features this bag has.
Main compartment has top, bottom (sleeping bag), and rear zipper access, so getting to your stuff is no problem. Two good sized side pockets on he sides, rear pocket where the rain cover has its own zippered pouch and where I keep my rain jacket/pants, pouch in main compartment where your hydration pack goes doubles as small lightweight removeable day backpack for trips away from camp, and lid has solar panel, small compartment with sleeves for batteries and cell phone, and another large zippered general storage pocket. Plenty of attachment points on shoulder straps for hydration hose, bear spray holster, and more on back for poles, axes, etc.

Hey' get this pack

Solar is NOW! We are living in a day when everyone is using solar. Do you have solar on your roof at home? Well this pack IS your home when your on the trail for a week, so why not take advantage of it's solar abitily.
The Gregory Baltoro line of packs have a very strong and sturdy frame that can take the weight. The shoulder and hip pads can be replaced to meet YOUR specific frame and body shape. The strap and pads move and pivot allowing a more natural fit and move with you when you walk. The most important feature of this pack is the Goal Zero system. Phone, watch, camera, gps, radio, etc... can all be charge using this back. It does have a little more weight over the standard 75 but it's not noticeable. All in all this is one heck of a great pack.

Great Pack

Absolutely amazing pack. Did a lot of research when trying to find a good pack for longer expeditions than my NorthFace can handle. REI has the best price by far of any online retailers. Amazing fit and suspension system; much more comfortable once you get above 35-40 pounds than I found with other highly rated packs. Would 100% recommend to any one looking for comfort, quality, & features. As a bonus it comes with a raincover & removable day pack.

First impression
I must say I haven't traveled with the pack yet but I love a lot about it. The material is great, and the layout of the pack is superb. It collapses down and looks almost like a regular backpack with you want it to be but can really get big and expand as well. Really impressed so far, Got a big trip planned in Alaska i a Month, I may return to see how it goes.

Incredible comfort and support

First - I am returning this pack. I upgraded to the larger 95. However, I had this pack fully loaded with gear and water over a backcountry trip (45 pounds) and it was flawless. It simply is the most comfortable pack I've ever worn. VERY happy to see the 95 has the same design and comfort, because as sherpa Dad, I simply needed more volume. I HIGHLY recommend trying this on with 30-35 pounds in store and compare to the competition. When I took the time to do this, it was an easy decision.
