My toes are free & happy!
I had to call Chaco to discern the differences with all their models. Here is a little of what I uncovered. Chaco recently released the 'Cloud' and 'Classic' with a new tread that is intended to offer better traction, as a benefit. Also, on their latest iteration, the 'Cloud' (which you can visually discern on the shoe, as that there is a thin gray layer across the foot bed), is purported to be softer under foot. So, I wore a 'Classic' and 'Cloud' around the REI store, and I was disappointed in a way to find I simply loved the added softness of the 'Cloud' foot bed; it didn't give me that strange discomfort that the hard black material can give me typically, after wearing a Chaco for awhile. The reason I say disappointed is that if it wasn't for the 'Cloud' feature on their latest iteration, I definitely would have choosen the lower-priced options at REI's outlet. So the noticeable softness of the 'Cloud' is why I chose this sandal. So, first you have to decide on the 'Cloud' or no 'Cloud.' And then you have to decide between the toe wrap or no toe wrap. Again, I wore one of each around the store, as that it takes me awhile to 'feel' a shoe. (And be sure to follow the written instructions on the shoe box when putting-on or taking-off these sandals to get the best fit.) I have long toes, and unfortunately the toe wrap hit my enlarged (long story) big left toe in a noticeable (almost uncomfortable) way. (I'd get the toe wrap if that feature was tolerable, as it definitely offers more side-to-side stability on rocky terrain, when the sandal has the extra security of the toe wrap.) After a few weeks, I love wearing these Chacos. Most of all, I love lifting-up all 10 of my toes, like we do on our mats in a yoga class, and then placing them gently back down on the 'Cloud' foot bed; that is my favorite feature of these sandals, as that my toes feel like they're commando. And these Chacos don't feel noticeably heavy (which was a concern but played-out just fine). And the upside to go without the toe wrap is being able to wear socks at camp, when the temps drop.

Sizing Off - Not for Gals with Longer Narrow Feet
Really wanted to love these sandals. My friends who own them swear by them. And having been loyal to Teva for years but wanting better arch support, I decided to make the plunge. Great footbed and sole, seem well made and durable. But after spending 40 minutes with the REI shoe salesperson and neither of us being able to adjust the right sandal to fit (the left was okay, could have been better), I gave up. I usually wear a Womens Size 10N. These run large. So while the 10 had 2" top end space, the instep hit me in the right place. I tried the 9 on as well. The length fit better, but the instep hit me wrong. Also, because my feet are narrow, the strap had no room left to go and still felt too loose around the heel. I guess not all feet are created to wear Chacos :-)

Seems like the quality has gone down

I have LOVED Chacos for over 2 decades. They are really comfortable, great hiking sandals, and perfect for just about any outdoor situation. That being said, it seems as if the quality of the soles are going down. I've worn a pair for over 10 years with little wearing on the soles, but a pair I purchased a few years ago has cracked and a divot of the sole came out! When I contacted Chacos, they said this was normal wear and tear? Disappointing for sure and not sure if they are worth it anymore. I will continue wearing my ancient Chacos and look for a new brand, maybe go back to the OG Tevas.

Best chaco's yet!

This is my third pair of chacos, first ones with the new owners. Usually I spend every second in my chac's and these are the Best yet!!!!! The soft cloud top layer is insanely comfy and the straps are beyond cute. I use to get some complimwnt ( which wasn't the point) but now I'm flooded with them. Not sure how they will hold up on a real hike but so far they've done three shows at red rocks ampiherather a two night phish run out at the gorge and every day long dog walk. So comfy. No blister. Great arch support par usual. No strap slippage Long story short they haven't left my feet in over two months now! Jackpot. Thanks again Chaco.

Comfy, cute, easy to adjust.

They don't feel softer when you are feeling them with your hands but you can tell the difference when you walk compared to the Chacos classic sandals. They are easier to adjust than I thought, they even give you a card with a guide on how to adjust them in the box. I am a size 8.5 and I ordered a size 8, they were a perfect fit. You can tuck the extra strap behind the ankle strap if you need too. If you cut the strap and then burn the end, it wont void the year warranty with REI but will with Chacos. Chacos also provides a strap shortening service for a small fee. These sandles look great with crew socks too :)

Perfect for everything

I bought these after trying on my moms chacos with the cloud topper on them. I bought the metallic pink and I’m so in love. They’re softer in style than my backless chacos with a print on them. I wasn’t sure about not having a toe strap but I think i prefer it this way. I also cannot emphasize enough how much I love the cloud. I will never buy another pair of chacos without it. I always wear an 8-1/2 in shoes (39 in European sizes) and The Chacos size 8 is absolutely perfect. I tried on a pair of nines and they were definitely too big. My last worry was that the metallic straps would feel different than the classic printed straps and I worried for nothing, they’re great.

Comfortable Shoes

I had previously owned a pair of the double strap Chacos with a toe strap for 6 years and I hardly wore them because they hurt my feet and could never be adjusted to work. I had given up on them but I was wanting some outdoor sandals for hiking and camping so I decided to try Chacos again. These sandals fit great and I love the cloud sole. It is much more comfortable and easier to wear for longer periods of time. I was unsure if they would provide the same support without the toe strap, but they definitely do. I usually wear a 9 1/2 shoe but I got an 8 Wide because there was nearly 3/4 of an inch at the front of the 9. Overall, I am very glad I made this purchase and I can't wait to see how they hold up.

Stable on trails, comfortable for bunions

I bought these last second for a trip to the jungles and beaches of Costa Rica. As a backup I brought my hiking boots but never did took them out of the suitcase as the Chacos did the job on jungle water fall trails and walking around the beaches. I am very picky about footwear because of my bunions and high arches and these were comfortable. It did help to read the directions about how to adjust the straps. The only reason I didn't give them 5 stars is because they are kind of clunky looking, not for date night, but as trail/water/stability sandal they are great

Chaco Sandals

My daughter is writing this review: The sandals are gorgeous! I wear a size 8.5 normally, but in Chacos I wear size 8. They fit great. Very comfortable. These are not my first pair of Chacos so I know how wonderful they really are. My last pair has a hole in the Vibram sole and I need to send them to be repaired, but I wanted another pair while I wait for the first pair. I have worn Chaco sandals for the last 5 years and have never looked back. I really really love this brand and there are a lot of them on sale now so please give them a try! You will never be disappointed. Thanks.

Great for pregnant feet

This is my third pair of Chacos. The first pair were Z2 classics, which I loved. I wore them hiking, biking, river crossing, canoeing, even running a 5k. After five years of use and abuse, the sole cracked. I upgraded to the Z2 Yampas and did not like them because the straps would tighten on their own. I honestly thought my feet were swelling but then ain came to my senses. After returning the Yampas, I opted for S1 Clouds. I'm now 7 months pregnant and I've struggled with chronic inflammation for years. I've been wearing the Clouds for a week and like them. Easy to adjust as my pregnant feet sometimes swell and they don't require breaking in like the Classics. I recommend this sandal if you are pregnant, suffer from foot pain, have high arches, and/or chronic inflammation.

Split across sole—unusable within one year

I bought these in August of 2023. I stopped wearing them in October 2023. I resumed wearing them in May 2024. By July 2024, a split had developed across the bottom of the left sandal that grew to the point that the entire top half of the sandal is about to snap off. A smaller split developed on the bottom of the right sandal. This was caused by the strenuous activity of walking around my neighborhood a few miles each week. They're deemed irreparable by ReChaco.
