I bought a pair of these at the beginning of the summer. They are very comfortable, then again I was hiking in jeans before. The material is light but tough and I LOVE the stretch, makes motion easier and more pleasant. I hike on a lot of up and down terrain where there are frequently climbs over boulders etc. and these hold up well to that activity. One thing I will mention, is that they seem to run large. I bought a 36 waist line and I have to hitch them up from time to time. Maybe it is the stretch that makes them seem larger. The pair I just ordered is 34 waist and I expect they will fit more snug, and I will wear the larger pair with layers.
I bought these pants on the way to a hike in the Olympic National Park WA. I live in Hawaii and its not really that cold there and all I had was shorts on my trip. We didn't really plan on it being cold on Labor day weekend, but it was quite chilly! We got up to around 6100 ft. and it was a light rain and windy guessing the temp was upper thirties ! I didn't have any base layer underneath and I was not cold at all. As well , these pants repell water unbelievably well ! I was dry the whole time ! I would buy these pants again in a heartbeat ! Plus as a bonus, there convertible ! Excellent job Kuhl and REI !
I am in love with these pants. Thank you REI for working with Kuhl on these. The Liberator was a great pant until I realized that I wanted cargo pockets, more stretch to easily get my hands into both front and rear pockets, and unrestricted mobility when the sweat starts to kick in. These pants have all of that. Now I have both comfort and utility. Addition to all that, both cargo pockets have an inner pocket. And one of them with a zipper, so now I am comforted to know that my ID, cash and cards will all be safe from pick-pocketers while I trek through South East Asia.
I purchased a pair of these recently for an upcoming trip, and they are my new favorite pants. I am pretty frugal and spending $100 on a pair of pants is unheard of for me, but after trying these on, I actually splurged on a second pair. They are super comfortable, and for pants with additional pockets, they still look great (i.e. they don't have the normal bagginess of cargo pants). The material is very breathable yet feels substantial, not super thin or flimsy like others I tried on. It may help to mention that I have fairly thick legs/butt so I have had a hard time finding pants that fit my waist without being really tight in the seat/legs, but these fit GREAT. I can't comment on their durability yet, since I haven't had them very long. But with the REI guarantee, I feel secure about my purchase and am going to wear the heck out of these pants!
Will use as casual/hiking pants. Would not have purchased if not marked downs, too pricey. Waist size (38”) was spot on for me, length (32”) is ok but doesn’t allow any extra and if they shrink at all they will end up being short. I would prefer matching carbon colored thread in the stitching instead of white seams. One pet peeve I have with these and many other men’s pants and shorts is that the front pockets are way too shallow and things fall out if I sit in a halfway reclined position. This shouldn’t even be an issue with pants at this price level. Otherwise a good pair of trau and I’ll keep them.
Bought these for a 2 week camping trip, worn them most of the time. Worn while hiking in scrubby sage and brambles, no tears or pulled threads when snagged on branches or thorns. Withstood jagged rocks while climbing around. Breathable, flexible, hasn't bound me up. Sheds water readily. Good pants for being outside.
Was reluctant to pull the trigger on a 100$ pair of pants. Worth every penny! A good pair of shorts will cost you 30 to 40 bucks at least. A pair of pants the same, best bang for your buck here. Most comfortable hiking pants I have owned. I have NF convertibles, rei converibles ( they are much lighter). These fit the best. I am 6'2" 250lbs. Size 40 fits me. Don't dry as fast as other lighter weight pants, but I off trail hike in the smokies. Think they will hold up better. Will see how they fair this fall and winter.
I was looking for a pair of hiking/camping pants that were: - Convertible - Slim cut - Cargo pocket large enough to hold a fly box - Not completely ugly - Comfortable (stretchy ideally) - Tough enough for brush - Synthetic - Shorts length breaks above the knee for better hiking/fit That combination was nearly impossible to find. This pant has it. It's stretchy and comfortable, but slim and has ample pocket space. Added bonus: waterproof/breathable! And it's designed so the zip-offs won't catch fabric. Time will tell how tough they really are, but the material is thicker than many similar pants. The only pants that give them a run for the money are Prana. Do yourself a favor and try both. The only downside is the steep price, but the "perfect pants" are worth it in my opinion.
These are a little pricey, but the fit, quality and comfort are excellent. I love how the fabric stretches with your movement. And I used a coupon to buy them, so I saved a little. I would have bought them at full price, though. Highly recommended.
have only worn these a few times, but can a.ready tell they are going to be a new favorite. Very comfortable, moves well with your body and extremely breathable. Just returned from a work trip where temps where regularly 110+ degrees and they kept me cool and dry with the legs zipped on. Can't speak to durability yet, but in terms of comfort and performance these are definitely a 5 star pair of pants.
