Rated 5 out of 5 by from Dry & comfortable Enjoyed wearing these over coords and jeans when traveling in drizzly/rainy Scotland. Easy to take on and off. Didn't use the bungee cord on the bottom so the bottoms of my pants got a bit wet, but I've learned for next time. I'm 5'3" and the length was perfect on me. Bought a second pair for my 5'4" husband, since the men's short pants be bought were too long on him!

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Too wide for shorter women I bought these to replace my old worn out Marmot Precip pants for backcountry telemarking. (Loved my old Precips, but I found that their newer version was a stiffer, crinklier, less comfortable material.) I had high hopes for the Talusphere since my husband really likes his. However, it turns out they are way too wide for a shorter person like me. I am pretty normally proportioned at 5 ft tall and 110 lbs. The length of the small petite size was perfect, but they appear to be about twice as wide as a normal 5 foot woman. This makes them very uncomfortable to wear as, even with the waist cinched up as far as it will go, they twist around my waist and on down my legs. Guess I'll send them back and make due with the Precips. Hopefully that material will soften with wear.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Multi-Purpose Winter Outdoor Pants I purchased these pants in petite for cross-country skiing, snowshoeing, and winter hiking. I already have long underwear in 3 weights for downhill skiing so I figured they might work under the Talusphere pants. Wow! I couldn't be happier! The Talusphere pants are stretchy and don't bind. The sizing is pretty true. Right now, I'm between a 10-12 and the Medium fits just a tad snug. (Nothing 5-10 pounds won't fix.) I'm almost 5'3" and the length is perfect. All the features REI built into these pants are amazing!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from A little wide at the bottom but good quality These pants are true to pant size but not the size charts waist measurements. My waist is closer to 33 and hips are 40 or 41 and the size Medium fit comfortably loose enough to allow a light pair of nylon pants underneath. The bottoms are bit wide so you will need to tighten them a lot if wearing shoes and no boots. They are very comfortable and worked well on the glacier. The pockets are large and deep enough to put things inside. I'm giving it a 4 star rating because the bottom part is too wide. Even with my Vasque St. Elias boots I had to cinch them down and it was not possible to get them to tighten enough to look right. I wore short gaiters so it all worked out. I'm 5'3 with a 30 inch inseam and the pants' inseam was perfect for wearing with boots.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from A little long for petite I'm 5' 2" and it's really hard to find short or petite lengths that aren't still a bit long. These could be about 2-3" shorter and fit perfectly, so someone who is about 4'11" might find themselves swimming. Otherwise, great fit. Very good waterproof. Not too heavy. Work well and do the job.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Perfect rain pants I just tested my new rain pants on a wet West Virginia weekend. The size and length are as you described, and the drawstring waist is easy to adjust. They repelled the rain beautifully and were actually comfortable.

Do both legs zip up and down for removing boots? The description makes it sound like just the left leg zips all the way.

Asked by: traveler
I bought these REI Talusphere Full Zip pants on May 19, 2017. Mine have two-way zippers on both the left leg and the right leg You can zip it up (pull zipper up from the bottom hem) to easily put on or remove shoes. You can also zip down (pull zipper down from the waist) to vent or make it easier to put on these pants. You can also completely unzip it (pull the zipper from the bottom up to the top/waist) to separate the front side leg from the back side leg; this complete separation can be done on both the left leg and the right leg.
