Good Fit, Philosophy. Bad Quality, Durability.

I love this jacket. Very athletic fit. Rather stylish. Functions well... at first. However, I've now gone through 3 BD jackets in 2 years. I'm currently trying to get another one fixed with warranty. They fall apart, quickly. The logos and stickers come off in the first few weeks. The technology and philosophy of this jacket is great. The durability and build quality is very lacking. I've been a BD fan for decades. I can't express how disappointed I am with their clothing line at the moment. The one I'm currently attempting to get warrantied has never been hiking or climbing or anything aggressive. I've only worn it around town, and a seam is blowing out due to the fabric unweaving. I have higher expectations of clothing from walmart honestly, not including the $200+ full retail of this jacket.

Black Diamond Access Hybrid Jacket

Jacket is difenately a sport cut. I have a large upper body, the jacket is snug, but still very comfortable and flexible. I love the venting material under the arms. It helps regulate temputure when you start heat up from physical activity, yet the jacket keeps you very warm while resting. I would buy another. I use it for winter sport climbing, high angle rope operations, training senerios, and snow showing.

Warm, small/light, wind resistant, good fit

Overall a great warm, breathable, versatile outer or mid layer worth taking along on your winter adventures. I used this on the less strenuous parts of a few hikes (top of mountain and on the decent), while skiing, and took it along as an emergency extra layer on easier hikes. I wore this sleeping on a winter (5 F) camping trip---nice and comfortable all night. It runs a little small, but there's still room for layering a baselayer and fleece underneath. Good wind resistance. Haven't been able to really try the water resistance. I like how this jacket is pretty long in the torso and arms. That helps keep the heat in and keep it from riding up (which happens to me when I have a pack on). When I first tried it on I was afraid the softshell-like material on the body side and arms would swish and drive me crazy. I didn't notice it though. This is a nice quiet jacket. Chest zipper is in a great position and deeper than my other puffies. The hood would be nice to have but I do have hooded baselayers so it's still great without it. Wonderful quality! My 5 year-old puffy with 100g of Primaloft One insulation is definitely warmer (this one is 65g of Primaloft Silver), but I really like the breathability of the softshell panels on this piece. The hardest part about winter activity for me is staying warm but not sweating too much. Tech specs from blackdiamond.com: [Shell] Pertex® Quantum (20d, 40 g/m2 nylon ripstop with DWR); [Insulation] PrimaLoft® Silver Hi-Loft (65 g/m2); [Panels] Schoeller® stretch-woven with NanoSphere® Technology (260 g/m2, 91% nylon, 9% elastane) Weight : 330 g (11.6 oz)

Bad durability

Bought this jacket about a year ago. I LOVED it (initially). Great fit, kept me warm, not too heavy, and allowed for movement. However, its already falling apart. Stitching is starting to wear and the logos on the chest, sleeve, back, and inside pocket are all peeling. I agree with the other reviews here. Everything was great until it wasn't. I get that clothing doesn't last forever but when you spend a couple hundred dollars on a jacket it it doesn't last a year... that's just not acceptable for me.

My 1st and my last Black Diamond purchase

This jacket isn't even worth 1 star! For starters, if I am going to review an item, I base it off of the full price of the product, not some super discounted mark down price. This helps stem what I refer to as the "Kohls" marketing tactic.. imply that it's a high quality item by slapping a ridiculous price on it, then mark it down by 50+% so ppl think they're getting a bargain, and if a few suckers buy it for full price, all the better. But I would still give this 1 star at the price I paid for it. This jacket's list price is $230! Must be a pretty special jacket right? It's not. How much "special" is this jacket lacking? I bought it for $50 and I'm still going to return it! I have other types of jackets similar to this (style, material, etc). I've been wanting a sweater jacket for awhile for their compressibility, but they're overpriced (based on the fact that you can get virtually the same jackets- same style, warmth, weight, slightly less compressible, for about a 1/3 of the cost). I know this isn't a sweater jacket but they claim it's highly compressible (it's not), so when I had the opportunity to buy this for $50, I jumped on it. Jacket issues: -It's not compressible, it just has way less fill than similar jackets -It has extremely tapered arms. Understand that this is an ice/rock climbing jacket so there is a reason for tapering, BUT this is soo tapered that I had to go up a size just to get it on. Which makes this NOT an ice climbing jacket because even with the bigger size (making the rest of the jacket huge), you can't wear anything but a short sleeve shirt under it! The jacket fits no purpose outside of MAYBE a spring jacket to keep in your pack (but it doesn't stow within itself so still impractical (and extremely uncomfortable with a pack on). - Continuing on with the tapered sleeves, the compression and material choice causes strength loss in your forearms and hands while reaching overhead (not something you want in a climbing jacket). -Size and fit, as I mentioned, I have a few other similar jackets (which are great) in the same "size up"as this (because I layer underneath them). And even though they're all "hip length" jackets, this one is a full 3 inches longer! Which puts the bottom of the jacket nowhere near my hips LIKE EVERY OTHER JACKET I OWN! Instead, it sits well below, drastically restricting movement and sacrificing comfortability. -Durability, I can tell instantly that this jacket wouldn't stand up to backpacking, let alone climbing (see other ppls reviews). Even at $50, compared to all of the options and deals out there, this jacket is inferior in every way! Material, warmth, compressibility, fit, design features and overall quality. Oh and did I mention? It doesn't look good. The description mentions the large collar/neck. What it doesn't tell you is you could slide this jacket off over your head while wearing a motorcycle helmet! If you zip it all the way up, you'll look like an astronaut that just took his helmet off!! But hey, the jacket is worth $230 pfff!

Very nice

This is a very nice, lightweight jacket that I have no doubt will keep me warm when the temperatures drop and/or the wind is whistling. The jacket is long and, at least for me, extends down way past my waist. It also has a tapered kind of cut to it, so wearing it with bulky pants is probably not an option. The blue color is pretty much as it appears here, maybe just a bit lighter.

My go to Jacket

Fit is very trim. Very warm for weight. Very durable so far. Best looking tech coat out there IMO. Performs better than my Atom LT. Its my favorite go to Jacket for everything. Will definitely be looking for more Black Diamond.

Great Packable Jacket

This is a great, lightweight, but warm jacket. I use it along with a BD hoodie for daily bike commuting. If I need to take it off, and pack it in my backpack, it easily compresses down. As a tall, slim guy, the fit is great. It's close to the body, and the sleeves are just about long enough (I'm a long-limbed 6'4"). My only minor issues - and when I say minor, it's almost not worth pointing out - is that the elbows an be a tiny bit tight when bending my arms all the way. It doesn't interfere with mobility, but I notice it. Being tall, I've had this issue with other jackets to a point where it actually does impact my mobility, so I'm glad this this one is hardly noticeable Other reviews have pointed out the collar, and while it is taller than others, I can't say it's bad or bothersome. In fact, it helps cut the wind from going down my chest while I'm biking, so I actually appreciate it's design. Would I pay $230 for this jacket? No, but I suppose it has a different value for different people. If it started at a lower price, I'd have given it 5* rating, but I picked it up on sale, and would recommend that.
