Purchased last winter and this jacket performs for warmth and comfort above its pay grade. I have read reviews where some have experienced the down 'leaking' from the seams but I have not had this issue. - The front top zip pockets are great for stashing a power bar or car key fob. - The no zip interior mesh pocket is great for stowing items like a headlamp or small flashlight. - Runs true to size - purchased a large (I'm 5'10 jacket size 42R). Medium fit as well if you want tighter fit for layering with a shell. Also, it is refreshing to have a company release product w/out the need to stitch/patch names/logos etc. over the front of their clothing. This jacket possesses a nice clean minimalist look where badging is concerned.

Kuhl down jacket

When I purchased the jacket I thought I would be getting a jacket that would be useful down into the 30's. In a light wind in the mid 40's I was very cold. I don't think I can really make use of this jacket unless I have some heavy base layer to help or only use it above 55 degrees. The fit is fine and the light weight is nice but not enough to offset the fact that it does not keep me warm.

Well I like it

The only reason I'm reviewing is because of an earlier review that spoke of down leaking. Granted I've only had mine three weeks but I've seen no signs of any leakage at all. Yours must be a reject and somebody's sewing machine was set wrong. I will say it's the best looking down lightweight I could find....and I looked. I wasn't so much concerned with technicalities. I have a Costco down jacket. They were only like $40 and were pretty warm and well made. But Ugly with a capital U. My fiancée told me why. It's the shape of the shoulders. So the Kuhl rules. Only thing concerning is the pockets liners which are the same thin jacket material. Maybe it won't puncture. I hope.

Love this jacket, but...

I have had this jacket for nearly two years now. Got it when it first came out. Looks different than every other down coat out there. It has been durable and packs down easily. I did have some down leakage early on, but not much anymore. My biggest complaint with the coat is the non-insulated pockets. I can’t tell you how many times my body is warm but my hands are cold. Putting them in the pockets doesn’t help. I have learned to keep a pair of gloves with me.

Style for all Temps

I spend a lot of time looking at several different down jackets and pick this one when I saw it on and in Because it met all of my criteria. Warmth, stylish, and the down fill count that I was looking for. I can wear this on a cool day or hiking in Colorado at night and stay warm.

Light and comfy

Very light and comfortable. Also doesn't smell anything. Good wind stopper, the sleeves have an elasticated band at the wrist which prevent the wind from coming in the sleeves. Outer shell is nylon, so it should be durable, we'll have to see on that. Some of the feathers come out from time to time, but I guess that's normal for a jacket using real feathers.

nice,light down, not durable

I like this jacket very much, BUT, I wore in hiking last week and the velcro on my pants post was exposed. The inside of the jacket was rubbing on the velcro and a hole wore through the jacket fabric. It seems that the fabric should be more durable than that. Unfortunately, I've had the jacket for 15 months so it's past the REI return period. I would recommend it, just be careful. May only wear it for less active activities.

Never Had a Down Jacket Like This Before

I'm old enough to have owned numerous goose down jackets. All of them made me look like Michelin Man but kept me toasty warm. Last year bought 2 NorthFace artificial 'down' jackets that are thin, light, and warm. But this Kuhl is just as thin, just as warm, just as stylish, but with more activity-specific features.

Saved the Day!

I LOVE this jacket! It's the warmest jacket I own! I went snowboarding with it in 10 degree F weather. I forget my regular ski jacket. Luckily I had my "SPYFIRE" jacket in the car and used it in place of my ski jacket. By far my favorite winter jacket. Love the design and quick access pockets! Kuhl makes the best mountain gear!

Awesome fit and very warm

I bought this for winter hikes & early morning dog walks. It showed up just before the latest North Carolinian winter storm... lots of ice, a little bit of snow and morning temperatures into single digits. I took my dog on a 4 mile walk wearing only a T-shirt under this. Air temperature was 17F when we set out. My legs felt like blocks of ice for most of the walk... but my upper body was ideal. Given how thin this jacket is, it really keeps the warmth in. If i wasn't active, I'd certainly have worn more layers underneath but even mile exercise will generate enough heat for you to be warm but not too hot. The fit is also great. I'm 6'2 & 235lbs. I found that with other brands, their extra large sizes would fit my shoulders but the waist would have enough room for someone else and other brand's large size were too restrictive around the shoulders. KUHL's XL fits me perfectly. Enough room to move around and be flexible but not baggy - this helps keep the warmth in.

Favorite Jacket But Not Warm

purchased two of these jackets,( blue & brown). Absolutely my favorite jacket. Love the side panel contour fit and multiple pockets. This jacket is lightweight, with 800 fill down rating, but surprisingly, not a very warm jacket by its self. Below freezing, you will need a vest or lightweight sweater. With that said, I also purchased two of Kuhl's matching sleeveless vests to wear with the jacket(s) which made a huge difference. These vests are great and did not add noticeable bulk. This jacket is made for speed & comfort and will resist rain, but not waterproof. This jacket runs small as I am 6'4" 200 pounds as the XX Large size fits me fine. Some down feathers have poked thru the jacket shell but I guess to be expected for a 800 fill jacket. Overall, a great jacket, but wear Kuhl's matching vest underneath the jacket for colder weather.
