I usually love the Patagonia base layers, but not this one! I ordered one for myself and one for my daughter thinking these were going to be toasty warm for the hill (thermal weight!!), but they're not. The fabric is very thin to the point if you aren't wearing a really nice insulated base layer underneath, you're going to freeze! The fit is nice, this blue color is beautiful, but it's not what I expected. I had a Patagonia Capilene Thermal-weight 1/4 zip years ago that I absolutely loved, but actually wore out after about 10 years of wearing. That thing would keep you warm anywhere, but not this one. I feel like I got gypped! Now I have to go out and buy something else to wear underneath it.
I tried on a lot of different base layers in the store today, and I am looking for something that is super thin that will keep me warm outside all day while traveling overseas but without the bulk. I want it for temperatures in the 30s and 40s, I get really cold easily so I opted for a heavyweight base layer, and this one is perfect. I plan to wear it alone or under fleece and fleece lined wind stopper jacket (North Face). I liked it so much that I ordered two others to be shipped to me as there was only one in my size in the store.
I have come to expect a high level of quality from Patagonia, but this top did not deliver. I was expecting a heavier, warmer base layer top with actual thumbholes for winter trail running. This is not that. It’s very thin, and in the cold weather would need to be worn with other layers. Most disappointing of all, the “elastic thumbholes” are not true thumb holes, but cheap pieces of elastic sewn into the seams. Real thumb holes entail longer sleeves, but these sleeves are normal length. These knockoff “thumbholes” strain the material, are uncomfortable, and will probably not last. This makes the shirt feel very cheap to me. It’s a cheap way to claim your product has thumb holes, without actually providing the coverage or comfort of real thumbholes. I can’t justify the price tag on such cheap construction. Do better, Patagonia.
So lightweight, yet toasty warm. I purchased both the top and bottoms. I was amazed when I put them on. I wear a woman's XL and they fit great, if not a bit roomy. I've had them on all day, both outside in Michigan cold and inside. Don't want to take them off!
This thermal is soft and snug and very warm. Oddly enough, a friend bought me the matching fleece for Christmas, so I have the perfect pair. This is a very good, helpful piece of clothing for places that are cold so you can wear it to stay warm indoors, but it also breathes, so you can wear it outdoors hiking, walking, skiing, whatever, in the cold, but not get clammy cold.
These have been my favorite base layer for years! So comfortable, lightweight, and long in the back to tuck into pants to overlap with the low waisted bottoms. Layering with shirts that also have zippers is perfect for hot flashes - quickly zip all layers down to the chest for quick cooling to the source of the heat- I rarely have to remove any layers.
This product is shockingly bad. I love Patagonia and am so disappointed by this thermal top. The fit runs really big, the fabric is extremely thin and see through and what other reviewers were saying about the “thumb holes” is correct, they are awful! They are tiny scratchy straps that are super uncomfortable when worn in thumbs and are so rough and scratchy on your wrists if they are tucked inside. Don’t waste your money or time on this one!
First, I love the color. For once, the color matched the online color. However, it is not soft at all! The ribbed texture on the inside is scratchy, and feels weird. I would not wear it alone. I’m keeping it, and will just wear with a base layer. To me, it’s pretty thin, so will see how warm it keeps me.
The color is beautiful, in the cherry color. This is lightweight. Without a layer under it I am cold in the wind as the temperatures drop. The thumb holes are good for holding the sleeves down while I put on my layers, but they are just little pieces of fabric, not part of the sleeve.
Perfect weight, very comfortable-not too tight, but fits under other layers
