The Rolls Royce of water bottles
After a long hunt for a hydration solution to my 5 mile runs in the oppressive DC heat/humidity, I found this at the local REI. It holds my Samsung Galaxy 4 easily, along with a house key, and I'm sure I could put more in there, if necessary. The zipper is super easy to use with one hand to take out the phone. The neoprene absorbs the sweat and the thumb grip makes the bottle super easy to carry. The water comes out easily through the spout and there is no leaking. Only critique is that it's hard the first time to put the bottle back into the neoprene case. But once I get the hang of it, I'm sure it'll be fine. Now I wonder why I haven't always run with this.
Leaks, but otherwise good
Good, except the "jet" in the cover leaks when you run. If you put Gatorade in the bottle, you end up with sugar all over your clothes. I'll have to figure how to glue it shut. When you're working hard, the jet isn't much help because you get such a small amount of water with each squeeze. You would have to put 50 of them in your mouth just to get one gulp, and that may require breathing through your nose (slowing down). The water just stays in your stomach until you slow down anyway. May as well stop, unscrew the cap, get a lot of water, wait until your stomach drains (5 seconds), then resume.
Fits useful items in pocket
Aside from being heavy when I fill the strechable pocket with my Galaxy Note 4 cell phone and various other items: key fob, pepper spray and an interior pocket to secure flat materials such as money or a credit card, I love this thing. Water exits the drink hole with relatively little force up until the point when there is only about 30ml left. Don't make the mistake I've made and think you have more water remaining in your bottle than is actually there because of the weight of what you've stored in the pocket.
Make sure sleeve is not stopping cap from sealing
Love this bottle and sleeve system but... You have to make sure that when you replace the sleeve after washing the bottle that the sleeve part under the cap is not keeping the cap from screwing down all the way. The sleeve grips the bottle very firmly and in order to replace the sleeve it's easiest to flip the sleeve inside out and then replace it from the top to the bottom starting from the neck and rolling it down otherwise it's really difficult to replace the sleeve and if you don't replace the sleeve so that it is fully on the bottle it will stop the cap from sealing. It's easy to replace the sleeve knowing the trick of turning the sleeve inside out, putting the top part on the neck of the bottle first and then rolling it down, but if you don't do it this way, not easy! If you know this trick this is the bee's knees of handhelds. Great product holds my phone, key, card. Very high quality super comfortable handheld.
Inconvenient to clean and to fill
Due to its form, you can't just stand it on a flat surface and fill it - you have to hold it, otherwise it falls on its side, which is inconvenient. Additionally, it is extremely important to empty, clean and dry it after EVERY SINGLE USE - I neglected doing so a couple of times, and some kind of black residue appeared on the inside of the bottle which, due to the bottle's form, was extremely hard to clean. So this form, while making it slightly more comfortable to carry it during the run, produces various problems.
Almost Perfect
The Amphipod Hydraform Ergo-Lite Ultra Handheld Water meets high standards of function and design. At 20oz., it provides adequate capacity to carry a sufficient amount of fluids for runs lasting more than 45 mins. The case design is sleek with a large pocket that can fit most devices, cards, keys, and supplements. The handle secures well to the hand but tends to become a bit uncomfortable on runs lasting more than an hour. The squeeze pressure design of the spout works great. Overall, the Hydraform is almost perfect, but for those long 2 hour+ runs, comfort is paramount...
Noooooooope
Leaks like a sieve. It's going back tomorrow. I bought this a couple weeks ago for my summertime short runs in Colorado, as an alternative to the full water-belt. I like the design, and the fact that this one's pocket can hold an iPhone6 (not the big one, but the smaller one just fits). That said, I am VERY glad I did not put my iPhone6 in the pocket, as the cap leaks horribly. The whole pouch was soaked. I thought maybe I hadn't screwed the cap down tight enough, but it was as tight as it could be. Maybe it's the float mechanism (there's no turning the cap to open the valve, but you squeeze the bottle instead). I wasn't squeezing while running; I checked, because I couldn't believe how much water was spilling out onto me, my running friends, etc. I disassembled when I got it home, thinking (hoping) the case was somehow blocking the cap from being screwed on tight. Nope. Still leaks. It's kind of pointless if it leaks at the slightest jarring, as you're holding it in your hand while you run. Durr.
Great storage space, nice insulation, a bit bulky
I'm a trail runner who (when I'm not running mountains) typically runs in 95'F~105'F desert heat most of Summer. Throughout years I've used and still own Nathan SpeedDraw, UltrAspire Isomeric Race handheld bottles. I don't run with belt bottles and for any self-supported trail run longer than 20 miles, I use Salomon S Lab vest. I personally feel more nimble with UltrAspire 20oz (Older model with a pocket for phone and fuels) due to it's less overall volumn than Amphipod, yet more ergonomic than Nathan SpeedDraw. But for my runs up to 15 mile distance, above 95'F heat which I like to carry iphone 7 Plus for listening to Podcasts, I take this Amphipod. It has great separated storage spaces for your fuels, keys, gels and bigger phones. I can even fit a PB&J sammy if I wanted to. (All this means added weight in one hand) Regardless whether these pockets being stuffed or not, the 20oz version bottle does feel a bit bulky in hand (I'm 37, 6ft tall, 180lbs) but then that's what I got this bottle for. For just-in-case extra storage space with enough water when all I wanna have on me in 100'F heat are a pair of light running shorts, trail running shoes and a water bottle. The insulation works great. I freeze my water and it stays cold for about 1~2 hours (95~105'F heat). The padding and thumbhole design is comfortable. It's a great product to purchase and I'd buy it again. If you are a little too concerned about the bulkiness and do not mind carrying less water, 16oz version would be more than perfect. I went with 20oz because I usually don't get to refill water during my run.
Great for running
This was somewhat of a spontaneous purchase, but I needed a handheld to replace another brand's small hand-held with the pop-up top. For the first time, I could carry my phone, which I should have been doing long ago for running. I like the cap, although I thought it would be a squeeze function. I think Amphipod has better products, since I got a lot of "duds" with a particular competitor's brand.
Works fine, and pocket fits my cell phone.
First off, the major reason I bought this is so I had a carrier which fits my phone (Pixel). The neoprene handle is good, and the water bottle is fine - although - as with all of these - I find no benefit in the ergo bottle shape. (when running I grab the handle instead of wrapping my hand around). This seems to fit a standard shorty water bottle, so this won't be useless when the bottle breaks.
