My old boots finally gave out. I bought these for a spring backpacking trip in the Grand Canyon. I tried my usual 5.5 and a 6 - kept the 5.5. Plenty of play in the lacing - I like to adjust differently for up and downhill. Once adjusted, the lacing stays firm. Very comfortable with satisfactory arch and ankle support. I didn't have much time for break in - had one tiny heel blister on initial 5 mile road walk without a pack, took a few more flat walks, and no blisters on actual trail hike! The ankle support was excellent both up and downhill with a large pack. Accidentally submerged my foot in a creek and came out dry. Fantastic boot so far!
These boots have blown me away. I took them straight out of the box on a 6 mile hike on the Superior Hiking Trail. I have always had trouble with blisters when hiking so I was a little worried. I am very happy to report, I had zero blisters and my feet were nice and dry. This is amazing considering at some points in the hike we were post holing up to our knees. Also, I have never found a boot that allowed my heel to fit snuggly into the heel pocket before. The Lowa Lady Lights GTX boots cupped my heel perfectly and made for a very stable comfortable hike. I am excited to break them in even more and will be doing a 52 mile Pacific Crest Trail jaunt in them next month. Though they were a bit spendy, I am extremely happy with my purchase. Money Extremely Well Spent!
I previous owed the Lowa Renegades which relentlessly gave me blisters on my heels. Despite adding sock liners, tying the boots in a variety of ways, my heels continued to blister. I exchanged the Renegades for these. I continue to take precautions, but have been blister free with these boots. I am very satisfied!
I wore these boots for a 40 mile (5 day) backpacking trip in the Sierras. Had a couple of weeks to break them in before leaving. I got some large blisters on the inside of both heels, but that seems to have resolved with the use of liner socks and berry colored SuperFeet insoles. What is a persistent problem is that the balls of my feet get quite painful after about 2 miles of flat or downhill hiking. I could also feel small stones underfoot as I was hiking, although that wasn't much of an issue. After about 65 miles in these, I have concluded that the sole on this model is not very thick or cushioned. I wish Lowa would have used a Vibram sole instead. I'm not giving up on these yet, because they are so trouble free in every other respect and very well made. Perhaps a more cushioned sock might solve the ball of foot pain problem. I'm delighted to spend money on hiking boots that are European made, which these are. I wear between a 9 an 9.5 street shoe an went with a 10 in these boots.
I bought these a few weeks before heading out to Iceland. I needed zero break-in time and loved the comfort/ appeal of these boots. While this sounds pretty generic, the reality is it took me YEARS to find a replacement for my old Montrail which I had for 17 years and took me all over the world. (For anyone else facing a similar search it was the Montrail Solitude II). I don't know yet about durability - maybe I'll remember to come back here in a few years and re-review.
The worlds most comfortable hiking boots. I've had many top of the line boots and nothing comes close to the comfort and support of these. I wear a 9.5 and went up to a 10 and they are perfect. My feet are elated ;) Miles to go has never felt so good!
These boots have been great. The man helping me at the store recommended them for my upcoming NOLS trip and I have been pleased. No break in time needed, as soon as I put them on I was ready to go. No blisters, no discomfort. The little peg to tighten the lacing at the top is a really nice feature. Very happy with this purchase.
Bought these boots for my wife and she loved them! We went hiking and camping in the snow and they kept her feet dry. She's used them multiple times and no blisters. They are awesome hiking boots!
I've worn these twice now. I first bought the Lowa Mauria but I got blisters from those and exchanged for these. I just wore them on the trail around Mt. St. Helens and they kept my feet very stable over all of the lava. First boots to not get crazy blisters, but of course, this is all very foot specific.
I wear dress size 9. Got theses in 10. I use berry Superfeet inserts and Darn tough socks. Perfect.
