I bought this because it was lightweight, breathable, windproof and supposedly water-resistant. Outdoor GearLabs gave it the Editor's Choice in 2014 I think. Anyway, it's really not that resistant to water at all. I just took the dog out for a walk in it in a light rain for about an hour and I was just starting to get wet. So it's water resistant for about an hour. I'm going to treat it with nicwax on the upper shoulders where it seems to get the most water when I'm hiking. We'll see what happens. I'd view this as a breathable windbreaker. I was just hoping for a super-light breathable option. I recommend but not for wet conditions.

I've had the male version of this jacket for five years now from when y'all supported the little guys. So bought it from wife, Who is outdoor the education director at The wood River middle school, and my mother, she kayaks every day on the Connecticut River. I enjoyed your professional sponsor for three years as a guide for Sun Valley Trekking. Your product is easily hands-down the best product for all around adventure and backcountry wear! Please return their sponsor it is very profitable for you because seven Valley tracking only serves people who can afford your product. And your product is on every shelf in the shops in Ketchum, ID. Plus Stio sucks!

Great for active winter times

I have the Ferrosi shorts and like them for hiking. I tried a Ferrosi top and didn't like the material next to my skin. But in a jacket it's great. I use this for snowshoeing and find it's the perfect layer - it's wind resistant but keeps me from getting too hot. I like the hood which also helps when the wind kicks up and the thumb hole which gives a little extra protection. I did not find the sizing that off, as other reviewers reported. I wear it with a layer or two underneath in my usual "layering" size.

Probably a great jacket, but sized very small

I really think this would be the jacket that I was looking for for backcountry/cross country skiing shell layer. Seems well designed, nice features. But was sized really small. I actually checked to make sure I had received the right size. I am consistently an XL and I couldnt even barely zip this, never mind get some layers under it. Oh well.

I love it

I bought the jacket to use it mainly for outdoor climbing. Hood is big enough so you can put over your helmet for wind protection. It is not fully windproof but it cuts most of it. It is extremely breathable and very comfy, lots of mobility. The fabric in the arms seems to be more abrasion resistance. Then, the jacket looks very good!! I am 5'8" and 150 lbs and bought a large so I can layer up, I think I should have been able to fit in the medium size, but this way I can put a down jacket underneath for colder days.

I want 5 of these. One for every star I'm rating it.

I first fell in love with this jacket during some spring skinning. Perfect to layer over a tanktop and ski uphill--sometimes even enough wind resistance for the downhill too. Since spring skiing has given way to summer, this is my favorite layer to wear mountain biking, running, hiking, and climbing. Here in the high country, chilly storms come through quickly and having this little layer on hand is a godsend. It is also in the "stylish" category for mountain town life, though it may not smell the most stylish when hitting the bar after all the aforementioned activities. Regardless of the smell, it goes everywhere with me.

Three season jacket!

Mostly I love this jacket for spring skiing and for summer hiking. It isn't the warmest so I rarely use it on cold winter days (try the OR Centrifuge for that) but I love it if the temperature is in the high 30's - mid 50's! I confess to owning three of these although my oldest is one of the first generations without a hood, (bring that back OR!) It is soft and supple and provides a touch of warmth and wind protection. I usually wear this with a light shirt on underneath. It also works well as an around town mountain summer evening jacket...I got the large because of my somewhat wide hips but also because I like buying jackets bigger for layering. (5'7", 150 lbs, wide shoulders and hips!!)..

Great lightweight soft-shell!

I bring this jacket with me everywhere in the spring, fall, and summer. It is extremely lightweight but protects from the wind and keeps me warm when it gets a little chilly in the mountains! I especially love it for an extra layer mountain biking or when the wind comes in at the summit of peaks!

Wasn't what I expected

The material the coat was made out of was not what I was expecting. I am a tactile person and I did not care for the feel of the material. Per others comments, I ordered up one size and the coat fit perfectly. And, seemed to be as described by the manufacturer. I just didn't care for the material.

Already a Go-To Layering Piece

I wore the Ferrosi on chilly, damp autumn hikes in Pennsylvania and on a cross country ski in Algonquin Park in Ontario, and it's been an amazing piece to have in my arsenal! I'm 5'9" with long arms, and the large is a little roomy, but I like my clothing a bit looser, and the sleeves are long enough for me to use the thumbholes! I took it on a windy, rainy, 40ºF hike in Pennsylvania knowing it wasn't fully waterproof, but my thick baselayer stayed dry enough for the four hour adventure thanks to the water resistance. The wind resistant fabric kept blasting gusts from freezing my skin, and the breathability helped me regulate my body temperature when my friend and I were humping it up a hill. Unless I got hit directly in the face with a gust of wind, the hood stayed put over a winter hat. Separately, I wore the Ferrosi Hooded Jacket on a multi-hour, single day cross country ski in Ontario's Algonquin Park on a 15-20ºF day with a thick baselayer to see how comfortable it kept me in the snow. I was chilly standing still, but perfectly comfortable while was moving, and was able to use the thumb loops while hanging on to ski poles. The Ferrosi's stretch made it easy to ski without my layers getting in the way.
