Great for hiking, swimming

I was very pleased with the versatility of these shorts. I got them earlier in the summer with the hopes of trying them out on a multi-day backpacking trip, river tubing adventures, and a long road trip. I was surprised to find that they were great backpacking shorts, and was very excited about how quickly they dried after wearing them in the water. That being said...are they a tad short? Yes. Do you have to tug them down every once in a while? Sure. I'm a size 12, got the large, and thought the waist band was fine. I did notice that the pockets are small (will not fit a phone), and I had a chapstick fall out multiple times while sitting....so not the best pockets.

Almost perfect!

First i am 110# 5'4" 27-36" hip not heavy but usual womens hips (not mens w/ absolutly no fat); that said the elastic in the waist band is sewn right to the shorts also another drawstring, the elastic was very snug i hate that so went online to figure a way to relax this...... diped the waist band in nearly boiling water and then stretched them over the top of my dining room chairs at maximum width for two days till dry, now they are perfect, and when swimming if they stretch out they have the draw string to tie tighter if needed, I really hate tight waist bands, now they are perfect!!!! Love love them got three pairs of them the two floral print and a blue pair!

Comfortable even for a mom with 2 children

I'm a size 6 in the women's Columbia shorts and Loft pants. I read reviews about the tight waist, so I went to an REI store and tried on the only size small they had left. I couldn't find a medium to try on for comparison. (The sale for the blue wasn't as great as this online to make a store purchase). Surprisingly, the small fit perfectly on me, even with my mama pooch. I ordered 2 pairs and received it in the mail today. I notice the elastic band has a stretchy and has a string to tighten, in case you go one size up;) because I almost did if I didn't try it on first. The 2&1/2" length is the shortest that I own, but this slim style is worth owning. The pockets adds a nice touch to the style.

Shorts for certain body shapes

I guess I would probably agree with others that the waist is "tight", but it's a stretchy waist and I think it would probably work out fine (I returned mine). I would not say that it was a chief complaint/problem for me. I loved the shorts, wanted to keep them, love the material, the color, the length. I think it's my body shape and and maybe the "lack-there-of" in certain area's and also the "presence-of" in other areas that I chose to return. I ordered in different sizes and then found one that did fit okay, but decided against them all-together. Would recommend giving them a go, though!

Great multi use shorts

These shorts have been through it all- backpacking, camping, hiking, swimming and running errands. I'm 5'1, 100lbs and the XS fit great! They dry fast and are really comfortable. My only complaint is that while backpacking, because there is no netting inside, the tend to sometimes ride up which is a bit irritating. However I always throw a pair into my pack to change into after a long day of hiking or backpacking. Also you can wear them for a long time and the smell never changes- great shorts.

Perfect for weekend backpacking...

I bought these to wear on a three day backpacking trip. I LOVED them, I'm 6'1" and 180lbs (strong and tall woman) and they were awesome! The XL was a perfect fit, I cannot wait to buy more. I was able to rinse them on day two and they dried in a flash! The only draw back is that the pockets are completely non functioning.

Great Find!

I love the fit and color of these. I was a little worried that the sizing would be off based on previous reviews so I sized up to a medium and they are perfect! Ill be getting another pair.

Very Small

I am 5'7 110 lbs and these are very tight on my hips. Agree with previous reviewer that band will need to be stretched for a better fit/ look

Way too short

Tried these on and they were ridiculously short. I opted for the men's version in the 7" length and they are great. The men's have a liner but I can take that out. Also bought the men's 9" stretch version, which are even better because of the stretch. Very well made product.

Great fit and color

The only shortcoming is the shallow pocket since I live to put my tiny wallet and iPhone in my pockets.
