Save your floors (and your butt)
The are the best of the "pontoons" I have tried. They last a couple of years (usage dependent of course, I ride several times a week) and have more traction. These do require longer screws than those supplied with cleats. I use 5mm x 16mm long alloy flat head screws (2 ea) to secure the cleats and a 5mm x 9mm long socket flat head for the "pontoon" in my Shimano shoes.
Saves the SPD cleats
I use Shimano combo SPD pedals. These are great pontoons to stop wearing down the cleats from walking on them. They’re plastic and do wear down but will last quite awhile if you don’t walk on them a lot. My first pair lasted a little over a year.
Get these for SPD road shoes
These are a must have if you're using SPD cleats on road shoes that are both SPD and SPD-SL compatible. They provide good walking stability and a bit of traction, and hold up quite well -- mine usually last a year with heavy use before the plastic is so torn up that they need to be replaced.

Sure makes walking easier.
I can't say much more than that at this time because I've only used them a few times. Had to file one of the pins off because both pins wouldn't fit into my LG shoes. On only one shoe though.
SPD cleat adapters
I had a hard time finding these but they were just what needed. They are working out just fine. My local store evened installed them. Thanks REI
