Great Support and Most Comfortable
Had my ankle taken out with a massive kick in soccer over 4 years ago. Could only stand on it for 30min before too painful if I have no support and that is just for walking around, light hiking. I tried McDavid with laces and velcro which are ok, but bulky and very uncomfortable past 1 hour of wear. Futuro is good but also past 1-2 hours needs to be removed. Same with wrapping with athletic tape (which is also the most expensive.) Then I bought one of these with the expectation of just wear it around the house. I was wrong, I use it for playing table tennis at the local club and I wear it all day as well. It is the best ankle support I've found and the difference between being able to stay on my feet or not.
Helps, but not built to last.
I bought this after sustaining an injury to my ankle. It helped ease the pain and helped me feel more steady on my feet- hence the two stars. However, the first sleeve I purchased split on the rear seam at the back of the heel. I only had it for 2 weeks, and I have a desk job so I wasn't exactly on my feet much. REI was kind enough to replace it with a new one. However, about a month after I got the replacement, it split in the exact same way even with less wear. In short, great if you plan to use for very short periods of time but otherwise they are prone to splitting at the heel.
Great ankle support; hardly notice I'm wearing 'em
I used this ankle sleeve to help recover from an ankle injury sustained while mountain trail running, and I was so impressed with how little I noticed that I was wearing it. At first I thought the seam that runs the full length of the sleeve would be noticeable and annoying, but I rarely notice it. I liked the ankle support so much I bought a second for the other ankle, and so far they have held up great over about 150 miles. I wear them over thin socks and they add minimal bulk inside my shoe. Sizing is weird - I run in size 12 Hokas and 12.5 La Sportivas and I wear a size small in this sleeve. Maybe larger sizes would fit ok, but I like the tight fit and added compression this size gives me. I am a habitual ankle roller and these have really helped me cut down the ankle rolls, and when I do roll them, I usually walk it off just fine. I also have a tendency to get plantar fasciitis when the miles start stacking up and so far these seem to be helping in that arena as well. All in all, great product - effective, durable, and help me keep on training.
Best I've Used.... But
This feels like it does exactly what you would expect out of this type of support and is, by far, the best I've used. Otherwise, I wouldn't still be using them. So the "but"? I went through four of them last year. All four came apart in the back along the seam where the top of the shoe meets the fabric.
Sizing on these does not make sense
I normally wear a size 9 or 10 in women’s shoes. Based on that, I ordered a medium after looking at the size chart. I had seen other reviews that said these run large but figured since I was on the bigger end of the women’s medium sizes that I would be okay. Ran in the medium for about a month on runs ranging from 2 to 13 miles and felt very little additional compression or support. I even wore this over thick wool socks (running in winter in Alaska) and didn’t feel a difference. Then I looked at the size chart again and saw that the small is supposed to be for men’s size 5-7 and women’s size 6-7.5 Not sure in what world a men’s 7 corresponds to a women’s 7.5. When I buy men’s shoes, I usually buy a 7. I just returned the medium and will give the small a try.
Light ankle support that works
This is perfect for my needs. I broke my ankle years ago and ever since then any time i put in big mile hiking days id wake up with a very sore ankle. I was pretty skeptical when i bought this sleeve but figured i'd try it. I was very pleasantly surprised by how well it worked. I wanted to hike a section of the Benton Mackaye trail in a weekend but it meant doing an 18mi day followed by a 24mi day. I hiked the 1st day without the sleeve and predictably my ankle was hurting by the end. I put the compression sleeve on hoping it would help and went to sleep. The next day i woke up, my ankle felt much better, and i started on my day. I wore the sleeve all day over my sock and it fit fine with no issues or blisters. I noticed throughout the day that the sleeve offered support and would keep my ankle pointed in the rite direction. I completed the 24 miles and when i got to the shelter that evening my ankle really didn't hurt at all that night or the next morning. A miracle for me. Ever since then i've worn it on every trip and my ankle has felt much better.
Just one, also too big
I thought there'd be 2 (because other supports of this type that I had purchased had come in pairs) but there was just one. Also, the "small" was too big for me (I wear a 7.5 women's shoe, and had to wear it over a very thick wool sock for it not to feel like it was going to fall off, and still don't feel much compression, so I didn't really feel a difference). I haven't tried wearing it over 2 pairs of socks at the same time, though. I got a small, but perhaps the sizing on the one I got was off or there was an error in labeling the size of the one I got (cause it sounds like it wasn't as loose for other customers).
To large for skinny ankles
This is not a review on the performance of the product but rather on the fit. The size goes by shoe size so for me it was a Medium since I am 8.5 women. My ankle was swimming in this sleeve. I weigh 165 lbs and am 5' 8" tall with fairly skinny ankles.
Good Support
Heavy with lots of stitching and a tight fit for me. I have had an ankle problem for several months and had been avoiding hiking. I have used this two weekends in a row now on steep ups and downs, and have gone farther than I thought was possible with very little pain. I'm happy with this and will keep using it.
Too Big
I am a Women’s size 7.5/8, and according to the size chart I should be a M. Upon looking at other reviews saying that the style runs large, I ordered a S and it was still too big for me. I don’t have particularly small ankles or anything. It’s a shame because it looks cool and well made.
