Tough Comfortable No Nonsense Real Boot
I work alone on foot in woods, wetlands, & meadows doing invasive species control & habitat restoration strapped into 45# of sloshing backpack sprayer. I need to stay upright & uninjured. I figured I’d try the Fuego instead of replacing my smoke jumpers again. Inside 15 minutes these boots got super feet orange inside, Obenauf’s oil outside. Then right to work. Hard. On a steep loose gravel slope. It was like lacing into a pair of mountain goat hooves. Excellent traction & support. Padded tongue is great for old blunt force injuries. No lace bite no hot spots either. These are 16 hour a day boots right out of the box.
Superb women's fire boot
I've worn these boots for 2 seasons and expect to be able to wear them for several more. They are the preferred boot up in the swamplandia of northern MN as they don't absorb water as fast as logger styles. As expected with leather though, after a couple hours of walking in snow or swamps your feet will start to feel wet. Although initially stiff, they now are the great combination of being very sturdy and providing great ankle protection, yet still being flexible. My heel and big toe wore through the sole and back cushioning of both shoes, but since it only resulted in increased comfort I have no reason to complain. For sizing, I normally wear US womens 7 or 7.5, and the size 39 scarpas fit perfect.
Best boot I’ve ever owned
I’ve bought these boots twice over the last 5 years. Love them! They are comfortable straight out of the box and rugged! I use these almost daily either as a paramedic /SAR, hiking, or hunting and they are built to last. Two things tho: First do order a size larger. I’m a 10.5M and ordered a 11.5 (45) and it’s a perfect fit. Fits wide as well which you wouldn’t expect from an Italian boot. Second, and I shouldn’t have to say this but, leather is not waterproof. No leather is. You need to treat the uppers to obtain complete waterproof.ing. Worth the effort for these great boots!
Great Boot
I needed a solid boot for mountain trails, hunting, and backpacking - these work perfectly. Yes they are stiff but it is an honest boot that furnishes a great platform in rough terrain and tough conditions without raising blisters.
Fire line
Bought these boots in mid July after realizing that my classic wildland fire boots had reached their operational limit. Switching boots mid season was a little bit of a risk but I had no serious issues getting right into work with these on. Break in was definitely noticeable, very stiff and considerably different amount of support compared to traditional logger style wildland boots. Appreciated the fact that these boots offered legitimate ankle support, toe kick ability and no pronounced heal to hang up on ground litter though. In the presence of fire, these boots showed no signs of faltering. Noticeably less heat transfer into my feet, and no ash leaking in through a sewn on out sole. Never noticed any de-laminating of the sole from the boot, even after walking though hot ash and actively consuming fuels. Also noticed these boots were decently water resistant. Not water proof. Utilized these boots for some hunting activity as well as general shop work activity. Great platform to be on top of for extended periods of time. This style of "mountaineering" boots are still largely held in questionable standing by many on the fire line, I've found no realistic fault with them though. Be ready for a stiff, but not blistering, break in that produces a solid pair of boots that preform in a variety of terrain, conditions and work settings.
Arborist Approved
Solid boot for Tree Work. Kinda clunky for climbing to the tips but great on the spikes. They take a while to break in and are stiff. Not waterproof so you gotta wax them. Tree work kills boots fast and these lasted a while. Das Boooooooot!
A boot that lasts a year
As an archaeologist i survey 70 miles every other week off trail, or am excavating. Not many boots last a year, my scarpas lastesd almost one year before i blew through the insoles and interior heel. Wit interior repair they could last another year. For a recreational hiker they would last much longer
Great boots for wildland firefighting
I use these on wildland fires and they are comfortable right out of the box. I’m on my 2nd pair but the first lasted 6 partial seasons ( 2 months on fires each of those summers). I’d recommend sizing up 1 shoe size.
Awful
After two seasons of trying to break these boots in and instead them breaking my feet (numb big toes, dead toe nails, blisters everywhere), I'm bailing for any other boot. Because of the price and the reviews I gave these boots way to many chances. They are stiff, clunky, somehow too big and too small at the same time, and sweaty. Only plus is that they are extremely waterproof and durable.
Numb Feet?!
Horrible experience! Like having blocks of wood tied to your feet! Stiff beyond imagination. Insanely unstable on rocks, roots, anything not as flat as these board like soles. Took over 100 miles bashing around BTNF for the leather to begin to flex, and then ankles feel like they have no support at all as that black leather flex point never seemed to fit tight around ankle. Feet go numb after an hour or two, forget about driving in them. Bought them for fire, but primarily do survey. Cannot speak to how they might be on fire line, but they sure made me miserable surveying dead and down areas for fuels treatment. So glad to have returned them!!! Might be good for use with crampons, but if that is all they do, you'd be better off with specific ice climbing boots. The sole is so unbelievably rigid I would not recommend them for hiking to a climb site. Might as well have purpose built plastic boots.
