Don't buy these.
I wore these around town and washed them about five or six times before wearing them on a moderate New Hampshire hike. The fabric failed, as often happens with Smartwool products, and now there are four holes in the crotch... from hiking in outdoor specific clothing. I would expect a lot more out of a pair of $50 undies. I'm looking into other merino clothing retailers that make similar products. If I find anything worthwhile I'll post a follow-up.
Do not buy
When I first tried them on I loved them! Soft, light, and warm, was great for backpacking. Holes began to appear after single wash (didn't even dry in the dryer!). After a couple of washes (again with air-drying) the fabric became thin and stretched out. Definitely would not recommend.
Fell apart fast!
DO NOT BUY!! Great idea but after taking them on a thru hike they fell apart in only a week. Not what should be happening with a $50 pair of underwear.
Not built to last
Sorry Smartwool, but these just aren’t as good as your other products. Less than a year and they have ripped in three places. Bought a few pairs hoping these were the real deal and now i’m left with holy underwear.
SmartWool Men's NTS 150 Pattern Boxer Briefs
purchased (4) pair of these boxers in July this year. After normal wear in early September every pair showed numerous holes in the crotch. I did not expect this out of a 50 dollar pair of skivvies.
Worked great!
Bought these for a 2 week trip on the EBC trail in Nepal and they worked great. No issues with rubbing, pilling, or odor. Definitely worth the investment!
Comfortable and Odor Free
Being merino wool, I thought it was going to chafe a bit, but not at all! Perfect weight for hiking in 40 F - 60 F weather. I wore it two days straight hiking 7 miles a day in the woods and it was not smelly at all at the end of it.
