Rated 5 out of 5 by from nice rack! purchased this rack for long road trip and works perfectly. i use this rack on my pickup with a 2" hitch. the locking system is so easy. just slide into the hitch and turn the the key clockwise til tight, then lock it with the key. the rack can drop 45 deg out of the way so i could open the tailgate of the truck to access gear. be advised that if you are hauling full suspension mountain bikes{i was hauling 4}, or smaller frame bikes, they recommend using a crossbar that you have to purchase in addition to the rack, because on small frame bikes, the top tube will not fit over the prongs of the bike rack. my full suspension bikes would not fit on the rack so i loosened each of the single clamps{2 screws} so they would rotate down and angle onto the bottom side of top tube. then the double clamp rotates down to fit the top side of the top tube. did you get all that? actually worked very well and very secure. hauled my bikes through 3400 mile trip and no problems at all. this is a great rack and really takes a beating. very happy with my purchase.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent rack, very practical for carrying 4 bike Buy this rack because I liked the design, how convenient it is to carry up to 4 bikes at once. I was searching through several brands and convinced me this by design, ease of use and price. The design is very good, easy to handle, has an accessory integrated bottle opener, hey you never know when you will need haha Very easy to put on the hitch, also includes a lock, which is very useful to prevent theft, in addition to avoiding the noise that is sometimes generated in the hitch.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Bike Rack The rack is built very solid and folds easily to allow access to your vehicle tailgate. The only downside is the initial installation of the shaft into the receiver. It requires 2 people if you use the 1 1/4 hitch receiver as the locking mechanism slides out of position and blocks the shaft from easily inserting into the hitch receiver.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Doesn't Really Fit Four Bikes We are a family of four. Our youngest is a newer bike rider, so we finally have need for a rack that will fit four bikes. We have two full-size adult bikes, one smaller sized adult bike for a teenager, and one child sized bike for an 8-year-old. No matter how hard we tried, we could not make all four bikes fit on this rack. Three, no problem, but even with one of our bikes being sort of small, and one being really small, we couldn't make all four fit. It was too much of a hassle for me to get the rack back to the store, so we're keeping it. Other than not fitting all four bikes, it really is an excellent, easy to use, super solid rack. Just wish it lived up to its billing as a four-bike rack

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Worth the $ Almost had to laugh at the reviews saying "too heavy for my wife to install". I am a very average female and had no issues installing. Very easy to line up the hitch and tighten. I constantly take on and off and it gets easier every time. My fat bike easily fits though the horizontal bars though the actual cradles are a bit rocky as I have some knobs that stick out on my frame right in those areas. Even with the tightening straps and wheel stabilizing straps the bike wobbles. That's the only reason I gave it 4 stars. That being said I have no issues with it driving, the rack is secure and I've traveled a few hundred miles so far with it on the back of my 4runner, some on dirt some on snow, without any issues. Really glad I shelled out the $$ for this one. Worth it.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from NOT for full suspinsion bikes!!!! The rack is solid and well built. It is very easy to use, BUT if you have a full suspension bike, forget about it. I was able to get 1 Full Suspension bike on the very end. The clamping system on the rack is in the way and you cant get your bike past it. this is a great rack for the normal style bikes like road bikes, family ride around town types, etc.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Worth Ever Penny I love this bike rack. We looked at several in this price range and this one was by far the nicest. It's very easy to put on/take off and folds down within seconds to access the trunk of your car. I would recommend this!

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Not for small framed bikes Easy to install, easy to use, bottle opener works great BUT if you have a small framed full suspension bike like mine, this product is doesn’t work very well…

Is this type rack compatible with frames having brake and shifter cables running under the top tube?

Asked by: pearlpass
The Ridgeback 4 Hitch Rack - 4 Bike has padded bike cradles which will conform to the shape of the cables, so this will work just fine.

I just bought a Toyota Prius and i have currently having the dealer install a 1.25" trailer hitch. question, can i re-use my Yakima RidgeBack 4 Hitch Rack - 4 Bike to this trailer hitch? note, i do not intend on putting more than two bikes.

Asked by: Sundevil
The Yakima RidgeBack 4 Hitch Rack fits 1.25 hitch receivers, so this will work with your new hitch.

Are there dimensions for the hitch? What is the distance from the hitchpin to the vertical mast? What is the distance from the hitchpin until when the metal bracket is first welded to the bar?

Asked by: delbrad
The dimensions requested on the RidgeBack are: Hitch pin to mast- 9.5 inches Hitch pin to weld (taken from center of hitch pin hole)- 3 inches Yakima does not recommend hitch racks for RVs or trailers. The tight suspension of an RV can cause the bike rack to shear off of the receiver.

what is the distance between the bars that hold the bike??? My bike old school beach cruiser is small and the top bar does not go over most racks.

Asked by: JMOW
The distance between the arms on the RidgeBack 4 Hitch Rack is approximately 11.5 inches. If you have a non-standard top tube on your bike, it is recommended to use a top tube adapter such as those linked below;

Can you please confirm that this rack includes a lock? One of the reviews mentions it does which gives it an edge over thule IMO.

Asked by: Jen and Andy
The Ridgeback comes with the SpeedKnob™ that locks the rack to the vehicle. The Yakima HandCuff Bike Rack Lock sold separately will lock the bikes to the rack:
