Great Lightweight Titanium Mug! (+ a handle hack)
This is a great little mug. I prefer it to the double-walled insulated one as it lets your beverage cool to a drinkable temp without waiting forever. My stove fits perfectly inside this mug, which then fits perfectly inside a Snow Peak Trek 700. If I'm getting real fancy, the whole lot fits inside a Snow Peak Trek 1400. The mug cleans nicely with a wipe and leaves no residual taste. One additional tip I'd like to add: Buy some silicone straws and cut them to length and fit them over the handles. I've done this to all 3 of my Snow Peak cooking pots and it really lets you grab them bare-handed without burning yourself. See photo.
Who spends $30 on a cup?!
Well, I spent $30 on a cup. Not because I thought it was worth it, but because I have a weird fascination with titanium gear. Long story short, I didn’t think this thing would see much use until recently. The other day I was in the back country doing some short day hikes looking for deer and the mornings were quite cold so I packed in my Stanley thermos. But it really was heavy. As I thought about it, I remembered that I had a way to drop weight dramatically and still have a hot drink to warm me up. I pulled out a tiny wood burning stove and carried in two solid fuel tabs to warm the water with, and it worked perfectly! Adding the thermal lid (sold separately), my water heated up quickly and stayed warm well after I took it off the heat. Mmmmm hot cocoa on a cold day! I would definitely recommend buying the thermal lid in addition to the cup.
Tuff Little Cup
Obviously lightweight and versatile. Often use it directly on my lightweight stove and is easy to keep clear and pack either internally in pack or is coupled with water bottle in side of pack. Very tough little cup. Was sitting on a rock outcropping eating breakfast and the cup was sitting next to me empty as I had already drank the coffee. A gust of wind blew the cup off the outcropping and down the rock ledge – ping, pang, ping all the way down. It landed on the side of a trail about 100 feet below. I eventually worked my way down to it and it had nothing but a few scratches. Highly recommended cup for the trail!
Funny to spend this much on a cup..
I picked this cup up randomly based off an idea that I could have a warm meal while riding my bike. Adding the Vargo Hexagon stove to this has been a great mix. It’s just the right size for a packet of oatmeal and it takes up so little space in my pack. The titanium cools off pretty quickly too which is nice for fast cleanup. Add the thermal lid to the mix and you have a pretty cool setup. I have also been using examine fuel tabs to heat water with which keeps me from smelling like campfire. But either way, it’s been a cool / handy way to get a warm meal in.
Serves the purpose
Awesome cup! I love how light in weight it is. Keeps my ice water cold and my coffee hot.
Great for morning coffee
Have used this mug on many a campouts and recently took it with me to the BWCAW. It worked like a champ every morning for coffee (and some afternoons). I have the rubber things you can put on the lip but never use them. The mug never is that hot that you can’t just drink from it. Keeps the coffee warm until the last drop. Highly recommend.
Holy moly!
Tough, the lightest mug ever. A must for UL backpacking. Very easy to clean and to boil water. One thing that I have noticed immediately is that after you pour boiled water, the mug cools off faster than aluminum and stainless.
Favorite Mug
I absolutely adore this mug! I bought the Snow Peak Titanium 450 during my first Pacific Crest Trail Thru Hike in 2014 after getting jealous of another hiker who had just picked up a plastic mug at a gas station during the last town stop. I'll never forget that silly morning. It was about 45F and foggy, and i'm walking along in my little running shorts, down jacket, hands stuffed in the pockets trying to keep from shivering and glowering at my friend with his new fancy plastic coffee cup was happily sipping steaming hot tea from. He was totally playing it up too. Well next time I had cell signal I decided to add a nice mug to my kit, not his half pound double walled plastic monstrosity though. I wanted something I could, if need be, use over my Esbit cook kit or an open fire and this fit the bill perfectly. A week later it met me at the next town stop, and i've had a perfect way to warm up every day since. It's been with me on every hike i've done since the day I received it. When your in the back country for extended periods of time, don't let all the UL forum trolls tell you what you can and can't have with you. For me, I have three comfort items in my pack that will be there forever. My inflatable pillow, my snow peak titanium 450 single wall mug, and my Patagonia Houdini Wind Pants. Even as I write this review two years and two thru hikes of the PCT later, this mug is filled with lemonade and sitting on my desk in all it's scorched, battered, and bent awesomeness. Each and every one of those dings, dents, and scratches is a memory that make me smile. Love this mug.
Good & sturdy
Wide enough to nest my Lifestraw bottle into. Lightweight, durable and no metallic taste.
Utilitarian and green.
Great cup for room-temp beverages and fine for hot and cold if you don’t mind it losing heat or sweating, respectively. Really lightweight, easy to pack around. I keep mine in my work bag so I can avoid using plastic cups or creepy hotel glassware when I travel. If insulated, five stars, but whatever, this does the job well.
