The stuff sack has a little button tab on it that you'd usually use to clip it outside your main pack, but I also found another way to use it... With the pack in use, the little stuff sack inside the bag at the top of the pack. This means you can hang a hydration bladder from the little button tab! My 3L bladder fits length-wise.
Perfect for traveling or shopping
When day hiking, it was perfect to put our extra layers in as the temperatures rose. When the temperatures dropped and we wore the layers, it folds back up into the size of a small chico sac. We put a mini caabiner on it to attach it to a belt loop when not in use. When sightseeing or shopping, it was perfect to put bottles of water or purchases in. So small and light weight when not in use. It was perfect. My husband said it was too much money before the trip. Two days into the trip, he called me a genious for getting it. Oh, and when the rain started, our jeans were soaked, but it kept our stuff dry. It was water resistant for us, but I haven't found any claims that this product is. I love this bag!
Fits a special need
My specific need was for a collapsable backpack for quick trips to the store on a bicycle. Many places won't let you enter with an empty backpack, for obvious reasons. This little guy fits into a tiny stuff sack, about 2 x 3 inches, which makes it small enough to stuff into your pants pocket. And yet, at 20 liters, it holds plenty of stuff, such as groceries, books, whatever, as long as you don't get too ambitious with your expectations. Being made of silnylon, it's lightweight, and strong enough to get the job done. Amazing product. I am quite satisfied.
perfect
i am a flight attendant. i use this for my non perishable foods on top of my perishable food cooler. i also use it on layovers for the gym and wandering out and about. fits so small into my luggage/lightweight and durable. cant say enuf good things about this pack. would b nice if sea to summit made it with drawstring= sack pack...but zipper is good. straps are comfy/don't dig into shoulders. very hi quality product. very versatile product/many uses.
Superb Ultralight
I got this backpack as a door prize at an outdoors talk. I could never have anticipated how useful it would be. I almost stashed it with my camping gear but I decided to embrace my inner ultralight tendencies and I started carrying it to work daily instead of my heavy traditional backpack. Wow - it is incredibly light and has withstood daily use for almost a year now. I am amazed at how much I can get in it: the things I need daily, extra socks, uniform, lunch, supplies. I occasionally add a text book or food for a group if we are having a pot-luck at work. Though minimalist, the shoulder straps are comfortable for me. Reducing my load has made my commute much more comfortable, I still carry all the things I need and this bag keeps going and going! I was already a Sea to Summit fan. I am even more-so now. The one cautionary note I would offer: I would not use this bag to carry very heavy loads on a regular basis - though it could probably endure much more than I would risk now that I am so attached to it. This one's a winner! I will definitely look for more Ultra-sil products when I need a bag in the future.
Convenient but not very durable
I got this as a gift before moving to W. Africa. It lasted about 18 months using it a few times/week to travel short distances (within two hours) before small holes started appearing at the bottom. I duct taped them and it's been fine, but for the price I would have expected it to hold up a little better.
disappointed
If this caught your eye for the gorgeous, smooth blue-green color (in addition to the cool lightness), you may be as disappointed as I am. In reality, it's a dark and dull teal. Once you unscrunch it from its carry pack, it is a wrinkled mess (see photo). Plus, I had to pay $5.99 in shipping because ship to the store was not available. With no padding at all on the nylon shoulder straps, it might be good only to carry an extra light layer of clothing. I'm still seething. It's just not worth the $35 bucks I paid for it. I'll be wanting that $5.99 in shipping costs and tax back as well. Yes, it is light, but so are those wrinkled plastic bags from the grocery. I have no idea how this got into the top 10 new items list.
Ingenious travel companion - well worth the $!
I've owned & used this for over 3 years, and I find it more and more useful. It's way tougher than the fabric looks, very water resistant, and well designed. The integrated stuff sack is brilliant - big enough to make re-stuffing easy, the cord-lock and button tab allow for attaching with or without carabiners to other bags, keyrings, etc., and when in backpack mode serves as a great little drawstring pocket for keys, money, minitool, and so on. The zippers are smooth and while the tabs are quite small they are designed so a small luggage padlock can fit through them for more security. There is also a handy little hanging tab in backpack mode that I wouldn't trust if fully weighted but can be useful. The backpack straps adjust quickly and though the width is a bit thin over the shoulders the design and adjustability means that it is surprisingly comfortable even with considerable weight. I've used this on a couple of overseas trips when I travelled on intra-European airlines where you can only have 1 carryon - it's tiny size & ultralight weight meant I could pack it away until getting on the plane, then deploy it quickly so I could have book, glasses, earplugs, etc. in the backpack under my seat and leave the main bag overhead. I now travel a lot for work - I pack this with my collapsible 1 liter platypus, buff and ultralight jacket tucked into my trail shoes and I'm always ready for a hike. Because it's a high density ultrasil fabric I do sweat under it more readily than some packs, and the fabric does attract dust, but it cleans up well and it still looks almost new after a lot of use. Also after a long tourist day with a heavier loads the straps dig into my shoulders a little, but I would buy it again in a second and highly recommend it to travellers who appreciate simple ultralight function.
Good, but I use the Sea to Summit Dry Daypack more
The light weight and small stuffed size of this pack are marvelous. But I find myself more often using its "big brother", the Sea to Summit Ultra-Sil Dry Day Pack, which has three advantages and one disadvantage. Advantages: the Dry Day Pack is larger, has some bungie cords attached to the front so one can attach or stuff some items externally, and has a roll-top opening which is larger and easier to use than the zipper opening of this day pack. Disadvantage: the Dry Day Pack doesn't pack as small as this pack does, due to the bungie cord and buckle for the roll-top. It's also heavier, but by a trivial amount, 0.8 of an ounce. This pack is so small that you could literally put it in your pocket. The Dry Day Pack wouldn't fit most pockets, so it's less portable in that sense. But it's so much more useful than this minimalist pack that I use it more often. Typically I'll use it as a daypack while backpacking, or put it in my travel pack while traveling. I.e in situations where I don't need to try to cram it into a pocket.
Great little backpack
I love this backpack! I carry it for extended trips in Europe where I am carrying a 45 liter pack with all my stuff. Then when I land in a city I use this little pack to get around. Also great as a day pack for rambles and peaks off the trail. And it truly folds up ingeniously and has been super strong. I have had mine for six months and am buying them as gifts for my friends because its so good.
