If you are tall and thin I would advise against getting this harness. I am 6' 2" 160lbs and this harness wasn't long enough for me. I would suggest getting the Black Diamond Momentum. I recently traded a friend, who is shorter than me, for the Black Diamond harness and it fits great, it is more comfortable for lead climbing and extended belaying or resting on the wall. Both of these are entry level harness so don't expect them to be perfect; as you get better and start climbing outside you will want a better harness that is lighter and more comfortable for extended use. Overall this harness is still going to save your life just like all of the other harnesses.
I bought this to replace an older Black Diamond harness that was causing me problems because the belay loop or rope would hang up on one side of the loop between the legs leading to a cockeyed hanging position and quite a bit of discomfort while working hard problems. The plastic special plastic protector on this Mammut harness solves the problem and allows for very fluid movement. Very easy to put on and take off with it's fast buckles, it's also lightweight and the materials used are very supple which makes it easy to put away in the included mesh bag. Gear loops are rigid so they hold gear well and it also comes off easy. Overall a great product I would buy again
Haven't woren it too much yet but going to use it for mountaineering and rock climbing. I've done a little of both with it so far and it's great.
Great harness. Leg loops and waist are very easy to adjust and it's pretty flexible. I have hung in harnesses from two other popular brands and find it more comfortable than both. I do not ice climb and haven't bolted any routes so I can't speak to it's use in these contexts or for very prolonged hanging, but for what I do (indoor and outdoor sport) I couldn't be happier. The price is just an added bonus for a great harness.
Fits securely and comfortably. I have a big waist line (42") and this harness was a good choice.
I tried this out for the first time yesterday. It feels secure and the hard plastic rope loop was a huge selling point for me. It is as comfortable as a harness can be, the legs fit well but still tend to creep up especially when belaying but I have never known a harness not too. It is my 3rd harness I have purchased and I'm loving it.
The sizing feels off to me, I can't quite close the harness all the way around my waist. I have a medium and I am a 32" waist. So I think I will go up a size. The plastic loop makes getting tied in a breeze especially at the gym when I am going in and out all day. The belay loop does fray a good amount with my Williams beaner rubbing on it. I like the accessorie loops being at the angle so everything slides forward.
This is the third harness I've ever used, so I'm no expert. But at 6'3" 175lb this harness was never comfortable around my legs. Everything else is great, and with the features and price I wish it would have worked out. I ended up going with the price-equivalent Black Diamond harness, and it's much more comfortable for me, but a bit more bulky.
This harness is amazing for the price. Much more comfortable than the Petzyl brand ones. The foam layering inside the leg straps and the belt add that extra comfort. The weight is good. It would be nice if REI had a harness package if you buy a belay and carabineer from the store, for non Petzyl, black diamond companies. Definitely recommend this harness.
We needed an xxl harness and this is the only one I have seen of that size. It is nicely padded and has some nice features but the new buckle is sort of sketchy. It also limits the amount of adjustment you can make as far as size so it is just a little bigger than an original buckle xl.
