Not very weather resistant
The product worked quite well at first, but it became increasingly difficult to open the lock, even though I'd only had it for a couple of months of infrequent use. I used it as an extra level of security for my bike rack mounted on the rear of the vehicle. Eventually I could not open the lock at all, and customer service advised me to spray WD40 into the internals, and strike the lock to open it, which did work. Once it was open, I could see the internal mechanisms were quite corroded, so I lost confidence in the product and will return it. There was a sliding weather seal over the lock which I had always used. Possibly moisture still got in, during the wet winter months when I had used it.
Big/heavy
Large heavy chain lock. probably more than i need but at least i have something like this for home. Locking discs are hard to move with key, even when new. almost considered returning but ended up just lubing keyway with "dry" chain lube and locking bolts with some grease. works smooth now although key/locking discs have to be deliberate in the insertion and turning of key...some finesse is needed. i certainly expected a higher tolerance/precision lock for this money but it'll do...for now
hard to keep operating
We purchased for our Alaska trip, they worked great. We used them everyday. But once back home we used them less often. They became impossible to operate. I’m sure dirt and less use may play a apart. And yes, we used the key cover. But that doesn’t prevent dust, dirt and water going in via the lock bars.
Better than having your German Shepard tied to you
After having our electric assist bike ripped off in broad daylight in front of a dozen people in Uptown MINNEAPOLIS while cabled to a light post I purchased this. No ones cutting this and if we find the theif, the chain will come in handy.
Secure and safe
So far, 2 months of usage. It's built tough and can handle any weather task. Only down fall would be the chain isn't long enough to strap around the entire bike. Good thing I have a foldable bike but even at the I have to be creative on how to wrap frame and tires. Besides that this product is heavy strong and durable.
Heavy and well made.
This is one heavy chain but the cloth cover provides plenty of protection for the bike. I use this on my electric bike to discourage potential thieves. So far, so good. Probably not the best chain for a commuter because of its weight.
Excellent lock
This is a great lock. Very heavy & sturdy. I used to have the motorcycle version years ago. Sadly sold it along with the bike. This maybe able to put around your shoulder if your a small body. You can put this in a bike bag if you need to, remember it's about 12 pounds.
15 pounds of protection
Not for most bike commuters. Mine weighs in between 15 and 16 pounds. I only use this when I’m traveling by car and most leave my bike on the roof for long periods. For that, it’s serious peace of mind. The thief’s best options then would be to tear off the factory roof sidebars and crossbars, a weaker link than this chain.
Thieves can still cut through it
When I purchased the Kryptonite New York Chain 1210 lock, I was looking for a high-quality product that would provide me with a sense of safety and security for my electric scooter. Unfortunately, my experience with this lock fell short of my expectations because thieves were still able to cut one of the chain's links. I carefully and properly secured my scooter to a bike rack outside my workplace, but to my dismay, it was stolen. The lock did not provide the promised security and ultimately failed to protect my electric scooter. While the lock appears sturdy and well-made, it failed to live up to its advertised security standards. Additionally, the price tag on this product is quite high, which makes the failed performance all the more disappointing. Regrettably, I cannot recommend the Kryptonite New York Chain 1210 lock, and I can only give it a 2/5 rating based on my experience.
Kryptonite New York Chain 1210 Doesn't Work New
Bought it as a birthday gift to protect my sweethearts new eBike. The keys fit but won't turn the tumbler... and thus, won't unlock the lock. I'm glad that she wasn't away from home on the street with no way home. I see several reviews with same issue. Some of them worked long enough to use it and then be stranded.
