Have only had for one day so far
I just got these today. Initial thoughts are they are comfortable but no squish in them at all. So hoping they don't end up hurting. As far as plastic piece in middle, one felt great, the other felt a bit sharp like the plastic mold part wasn't shaved all the way down. Simple, I used a nail file and filed it down. No more sharp part of plastic there. I do not have flat feet, I have a decent arch and I think they feel good. I will see if I can edit this after a few weeks. I got the 40's. I always wear a 9 or 9.5 never a 10 and never an 8.5 shoe or sandal. My sis wears between an 8-8.5 and she got 39's and those fit her. The 40's fit me.
My favorite shoes
I was tired of buying a new pair of sandals every year because they wear out so quickly plus they are so flat my legs hurt after walking in them. I decided to try these and am glad I did. Although people say give it two weeks to break in, I needed about 4. It was not easy, and I had to take breaks and wear other shoes in between. But finally, finally, these became the only shoes I wore all last summer and I loved them. I just bought a pair of Arizonas to add to my collection. Also, these were wonderful during my pregnancy. I highly recommend. These are true to size. I'm a size 10 in other shoes and in these, which I think is a 41.
Gizeh Sandle Review
I have a very average foot -- women's size 8, medium width, normal arch. The Gizeh sandal is the best fitting, most comfortable, shoe (or sandal) I've ever worn. The contours of the foot bed take a solid week of wearing to break in, but the rewards are magical. They're my go to footwear for long dog walks, errands around town, house work and even casual weddings. My feet don't get "tired" as they do in sneakers -- i attribute this to the stiff footbed (which, yes, takes time to get used to. Persist). After almost two warm seasons of wearing, the heal is beginning to wear thin and the cork just under the ball of my big toe is cracking -- normal wear and tear for the miles they've withstood.
Takes some getting used to...
These sandals are really good looking, and they seem very well constructed (typical for Birks). However, they have a ridge the runs underneath the toes to help the sandal form to your foot (you can see it in the product photo), and I found that ridge to be extremely painful the first couple times I wore them, no matter how I positioned my foot. After a few times of use the ridge wears down a bit and the cork does form to your foot, but man... shooting pain in my toes the first few times. They have gotten more comfortable, and I am going to keep them. I still would never plan on wearing these if I had to walk a long distance, but for a casual few hours worth of use here and there, they are just fine.
my new favorite
I’m so happy with these shoes! I’m not sure how many Birkenstock’s I’ve owned in my life but these are some of the best I’ve had (besides the old Arizona’s). They’re extremely comfortable and also not too bad looking! I was a bit worried at first based off some reviews saying that the plastic toe piece and ridge on the sole were uncomfortable. Walking around the house I noticed that the plastic piece was very annoying and wasn’t sure if I could handle it. Then I realized that I needed to tighten the straps to one hole up and bam! They fit perfectly. The ridge on the bottom isn’t noticeable at all and they’ve already started to conform to my feet. I would definitely recommend giving them a try!
Very comfortable and fit great!!
I have always wanted to get a pair and took advantage of the recent sale and bought myself a pair. I wish I would have bought these years ago! Very comfortable and seem like they will last all summer and years to come. I typically wear an 8 1/2 shoe so I ordered the 39 size and they fit great. i was expecting a breaking in period and that is not the case with these shoes they fit great. I live in Arizona and hike a ton and these are the most comfortable saddles to switch into after a long hike in my boots. I recommend these shoes and I'm planning on buying another pair soon! Worth every penny!!!
Extremely wide, uncomfortable plastic piece
Thrilled that Birkenstocks have magically come back in style, I was excited to try these. Unfortunately on this particular design, the piece between your toes is a relatively thick piece of plastic. Even after owning the shoes for six weeks and multiple wears, I can't wear them two days in a row, because it still takes a day for my feet to recover from that plastic thing! In addition I found the regular width birkenstock to be far too wide - even though I wear normal width in other brands, I need a narrow in this, which REI doesn't seem to carry.
Comfortable, everyday shoes
I was not sure about paying this much for a pair of sandals but I am so glad I got them. I am not a big fan of wearing shoes so I will opt out for sandals unless I can go barefoot! These shoes are cute, comfortable and easy to put on. One issue if, if you are not used to wearing thong style shoes, you might have to get used to the feeling in between your toes.
Very comfortable
Relieves plantar fasciitis symptoms, comfortable for my high arch and widish feet. Toe leather is thicker than some but helps the t-strap stay in place. The plastic toe guard can be removed.
Love these sandals!
These sandals do require a little bit of breaking in, and feel a little different at first, but they are definitely worth it! Super comfy, fit well and I get compliments on how cute they are. I've worn these on lengthy casual walks and they stay comfy and don't chafe anywhere. These are my first pair of Birkenstocks and I'm totally sold on them.
