I love the watch, but a little "screwy"
I use this when hiking and traveling the world for work. I love it for keeping track of time in different locations and the compass provides comfort when out walking around a new town. My only complaint is the screws and bar holding the band on. The top set is loose. It does not come off, but it rattles a bit. I took it back to the store to trade it in only to find that another new one had the same issue. I kept my original watch. The screws are tight in the bar, but it seems to be a just a bit too long. Maybe for thermal expansion/contraction? It has not had any issues and I really like it, I just wish the screws/bar didn't rattle.
No major issues so far...
This was to replace a Suunto watch that was a nightmare to adjust, among other frustrations. One neat thing about this watch is that it's light-powered. Another is that it basically sets its time itself--you leave it on a window sill for a few minutes and it interacts with I'm not sure exactly what--cell towers, satellites? Anyway, it has been keeping pretty good time so far. I haven't tried to use the other functions yet (barometer, altimeter, etc.) but I'm happy just to have a watch whose face is visible even in daylight. The only negative--and it's a slight one--is the "bump" at the end of the strap, which catches every time I take the watch off.
So far so good
I really vacillated between this watch and the Suunto, and spent some time with both models. I decided to go for this model predominantly because it seemed to be more bullet-proof, plus I liked the fact that it does have the tidal features (which I'll put to use in my kayaking expeditions). So far I've been impressed with the watch- looks good, packed full of features, feels pretty light on my wrist, and just feels solid and well built. Time will tell how all these features actually pan out in extreme conditions, so an update might be forthcoming.
Amazing watch!!!
I bought this watch because I moved to Guam and knew that I would be scuba diving, snorkeling, and spending time in the ocean. I love the tide feature, it is very accurate. The barometer, compass, and altimeter work great! If you spend time in the outdoors hiking or in the water it is the watch for you. I love this watch and was torn between the ProTrek and the Suunto...so glad I went with the ProTrek. My only complaint and it's nothing major is that it is a little heavy. However, for what you get it is expected. Best watch I have every owned!
Excellent Product
I use it to keep track of the altitude when skiing. I have to get used to the fact that barometric changes are affecting the altitude reading, so it has to be corrected when at a known altitude(like the ski base). I like having the time accurately updated every night. The temperature readings unfortunately are affected by my body temperature. It never seems to need to be recharged, relying on ambient light. So far it appears to be an excellent product at a reasonable price.
Great Watch for Hiking
I use the watch mainly as an altimeter and Barometer. This thing has everything. It works great as long as you calibrate it before you will be needing it as an altimeter or barometer. It will only take you about a minute to calibrate based on your current location and given information (i.e. the elevation of the base of a mountain climb). the compass is also very accurate and has been able to help when my GPS shuts down, this watch is solar powered and never shuts down.
An hour ago n the washer and dryer.
Few weeks after I bought the watch it accidentally went into the washer and dryer with my clothes for an hour in each cycle. Picked it up with some paint of the bezel and working perfectly fine. Now after 9 years of outdoors, hunting, fishing saltwater still going. Toughest watch I've owned. Features are great and accurate of calibrate.
keeps on going
Bought this seven years ago for a five month expedition. Previous trips I found watch batteries died mid-trip or fumbling for a torch to see the time in the middle of the night. This has been so reliable that I use it most days. It has been smacked against rocks, submerged in salt water without being rinsed after and it just keeps on going. One watch strap is all I have had to replace (and that is because I have a bad habit of taking it off and playing with it when sitting in meetings that are failing to inspire). Only thing that is not really accurate is the temperature feature (given it is attached to your wrist) and tides can be off if you are a distance from the set city, but these are not really a big deal. And if someone does mug me for it, better this than some bling that could feed a small nation.
Great watch, and everything you need to be outside
Bought this before going on multiple hikes around the country. I was initially interested in buying a GPS watch but realized that I didn't need to track everything I did. With this watch having an altimeter, barometer, a compass, all you need is a map and you're ready to go. The altimeter is pretty much spot on, maybe 20-40 feet off sometimes but that was just after hiking up 5k feet. It's also great that it charges on solar power, there's no need for staying hooked up to a power outlet on a trip.
Best Outdoor Watch on the Market
Owned this watch for 5 years and it served me well in a wide variety of environments and applications. Stupidly left it by a hot tub, did all the research again and bought the same watch a second time around!
