Rated 2 out of 5 by from Too long, too loose and too expensive. I bought this for both of our mountain bikes. One is a medium sized Rocky Mountain Slayer (all mountain bike) that is a rather long bike for a medium and the other bike is a small Novara Bonita. For the RM, it was just barely short enough to fit but was scary wobbly and almost instantly loosened up by a dangerous amount. I don't see how this is supposed to stay in place with no cam or locking mechanism to keep it from extending. Forget about it working for my wife's Bonita...way too long. Two stars just because the build quality is okay though the design is terrible. Please check it to fit your bike before buying. In the end, I took it and the rack back to get a platform/tray style hitch rack which cost the same total price anyway.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Does not fit some common women's bike sizes This did not work for my girlfriend's bike. Her bike is not an unusual size or shaped bike, it's a women's hybrid by Trek (WSD FX 7.x). The frame size is 17", which is medium, not the smallest. At its smallest, this Thule adapter is too big. I can put it on the bike, but it's very loose and floppy on the bike. If I mount the bike on the bike rack, this adapter will be held securely to the bike rack, the bike itself will be loose and bounce around. That's seriously awful. If the Thule adapter were 2" shorter, or the bike had an extra 2" between the stem and seat post, then no problem. My girlfriend is not abnormally small, nor is her bike. I don't know why Thule would make a top tube adapter that's too big for a fairly common women's bike design.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Well intended, Poorly Designed I bought a couple of these frame adapters to go along with the Thule Gateway 3 Bike Trunk Rack. The adapter does not properly fit the trunk rack it was supposedly designed to work with. If the adapter is set in it's neutral position, then the thick plastic on both ends of the adapter disallows a flush seating on the bike rack. Slight wear was visible after one round-trip use. I do like the locking mechanism that secures around the handlebars & seat post. The bikes seemed secure, but it is off putting to have a misaligned fit while using products (frame adapters & trunk rack) that were meant to be used together.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Decent product, but look at Yakima I bought both this and the Yakima top tube adapter to compare, and returned this one. The Yakima adapter is about 1.5 inches shorter at its shortest, so it fits more smaller bikes (including kids bikes). Other than that, they are about the same, although the Yakima adapter was a little simpler and appears slightly better built. It's also $10 cheaper.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Works Perfectly This device works as advertised. I use it with my Allen Bike Rack (trunk mounted) on my small sedan to transport my steel-framed Univega mixte bicycle. The frame adapter is very easy to adjust to fit the bike, the two locks snap into place and stay locked during transport even on bumpy roads/long trips. It handles the weight of the bike without a problem & it is so much eaiser to put my bike onto the rack now! No rear tire sticking way up in the air anylonger! Being a worrier, however, I do check the bike when I have to stop for gas, etc,on longer trips just to make sure it it still secure on the frame adapter. So far it has not budged nor have the locks on the adapter come loose even once. If you have an awkwardly sized bike that doesn't fit your rack, you need one of these!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Definitely Solved My Problem Got a new mtn bike that just wouldn't fit onto my older Thule spare tire rack - the frame bar was too thick and there wasn't enough length to it so I couldn't get it even onto the two posts of the the rack - this took care of that issue real fast! My only suggestion - is make the instructions a tiny bit clearer. I am an engineer and it took me a bit to long to figure out how the clamps work because they are very stiff and hard to open - which is good in the long run because it won't come off the bike on the rack but it is sure a struggle when you think you know how to open them but because they are so stiff and tight - they don't open easily so you think you are doing something wrong. Otherwise it has been fantastic!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great for Dual Suspension Mountain Bikes I used the adapter bar to get my Trek Fuel EX dual suspension mountain bike on my Thule Helium rack. Without it, there's no way I could transport my bike with the hitch rack. It's also very easy to use and seems well made.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Decent adapter for non-standard frames I recently bought a Thule hitch-mounted bike rack for my little car and needed this adapter for my women's frame bike. It works well, is easy to get on and off, except one of the rotating joints is stiff, so when you press in on the release, you also have to push up hard at the same time to get it to rotate. On the other hand, it makes the adapter feel more secure and less likely to fail while on the road. I've read complaints that this adapter will not fit children's bikes or smaller frames. I have an average sized frame for a women's bike and it fits just fine. The telescoping capability is nice for larger bikes but I barely need to extend it to fit properly. The adapter holds the bike securely, I had no problems with it coming loose, etc. during transport. A few complaints - the adapter is a little thick at the ends, which keeps those ends from sitting in my bike rack's saddles. I only complain about this because it prevents me from properly using the anti-sway cage that came with my rack, since that requires the seat tube to be positioned right against the saddle. I can't get the seat tube close enough to the saddle/support to use my anti-sway cage. My other complaint is much more minor and applies more to the bike rack, but someone could very easily steal my bike using this, since all they would need to do is pop my bike out of the adapter to get it loose. My rack comes with a locking cord, but it isn't long enough to properly secure my bike with the adapter on it. It would have been nice if Thule had designed the adapter to lock onto the bike with a key or combination-based release. Otherwise, I'll just buy an extra bike lock and finagle a way to lock it in. Overall, the Thule adapter does the job. It keeps the bike secure and holds my bike's heavy aluminum frame well. I'm happy with it, but there's nothing great to write home about.
